SB 146 would allow Lyon and Douglas counties to raise taxes to pay for a new detention center for children. It passed with 11 votes in the Senate this week. Eight of the eleven votes in favor of this tax hike were Republicans: Amodei, Hardy, McGinness, Nolan (of course), Raggio, Rhoads, Townsend and Washington.
Caution: It would make you a bad Republican if you were to point out that Republican senators voted for this bill while hard-core liberal Democrat senators such Dina Titus, Mike Schneider and Valerie Weiner opposed the tax hike. And you don’t want to be labeled a “bad” Republican, do you?

Chuck,
1. Home Rule law being what is in this State this is a good thing as it makes the local officials responsible for the tax increase and as the Counties asked for the BDR, it was the responsible thing for the Legislature to provide.
2.If the law allows the citizens to vote for the subsequent tax increase would that make you feel better?
3. I think Titus, Scneider and Weiner voted against it so as not to have the Rs hold it over their heads at the next election that they supported a tax increase, especially one out of their distrcits.
Lovely, informative site, thanks
