SB 257, which would increase the sales tax rate in Nye County, was killed in the Senate on Monday. That’s the good news.
The bad news is that seven of the nine senators voting for higher taxes were Republicans: Amodei, McGinness, Nolan (of course), Raggio, Rhoads, Townsend and Washington…at least the FOURTH time this session that the senator has broken his tax promise to the voters who elected him. But if you’re a Republican, whatever you do, DON’T criticize this failure to honor one’s word by this Republican elected official. That would make YOU a “bad” Republican.
Speaking of which…
I found it interesting that the lobbyists for Nye County who were pushing hardest for this tax hike were…Republicans.
But not just any Republicans. One is Patti Chipman, wife of former acting-Nevada GOP Chairman Paul Willis. The other is Ms. Chipman’s business partner, Laura Billman. For her part, Billman has been particularly mouthy in attacking me for attacking Republicans for voting for tax hikes. Now we know why. They’re being PAID to corrupt Republicans into voting for tax hikes. How honorable, huh?
But remember, THEY are the “good” Republicans and I’m the “bad” Republican.
