Republicans should thank their lucky stars for University Chancellor Jim Rogers. Just as they implode themselves over the tax issue, the multi-millionaire media mogul comes along and proposes a new personal income tax on Nevadans, as well as a new corporate tax on Nevada businesses.
“We have no problem, our company would have no problem, on paying a reasonable corporate income tax,” Mr. Rogers said in a radio interview this week, adding, “I personally would have no problem paying a higher income tax.”
Gov. Jim Gibbons should call his bluff. The Governor should immediately create a “Tax Me More” fund by Executive Order and invite Jim Rogers and all those Republicans who voted for tax hikes this week to be the first to kick in some additional bucks. The old “put up or shut up” routine. So let it be written; so let it be done.
