I know I wrote about this a couple days ago, but it bears repeating. There were four bills voted on in the Senate this week which would have raised taxes…

SB 141 would have raised THREE different taxes/fees in Washoe County. Five of the eight senators who voted FOR the tax hike were Republicans.

SB 94 would have hiked room taxes in Douglas County. Eight of the nine senators who voted FOR the tax hike were Republicans.

SB 146 would have hiked property taxes in Lyon County. Eight of the eleven votes FOR the tax hike were Republicans.

SB 257 would have hiked the sales tax in Nye County. Seven of the nine senators who voted FOR the tax hike were Republicans.

And let’s not forget Assembly Minority Leader Garn Mabey’s proclamation last week that he was open to raising the fees you and I pay for driver’s licenses, as well as a room tax hike in Clark County.

So next year, Republicans are going to go out and try to recruit candidates to run against incumbent Democrats. Those candidates are going to hit the campaign trail and go after the Democrats for being traditional tax-and-spenders. Only…

It wasn’t the Democrats who voted for all these tax hikes this session; it was the Republicans. So the GOP’s most powerful issue…the one at the very heart of Gov. Jim Gibbons’ defeat of Dina Taxes last year…has now been yanked right out from under them.

And some Republicans wonder why it’s so hard to recruit good candidate and win seats?
