I swear we must be living in a parallel universe here in Carson City somehow. It’s like a bad Star Trek episode.
Two weeks ago, there were four votes taken in the state Senate which would have raised taxes. In all four case, the vast majority of “yes” votes came from…Republicans.
Now comes a story by Geoff Dornan of the Nevada Appeal today about spending cuts. Recognizing that revenue is down and that Gov. Gibbons will veto any tax hikes, some members of the state Assembly yesterday began setting priorities and cutting funding from the higher education budget. “The divide was partisan,” writes Dornan, “with Democrats backing the cuts and Republicans supporting the original budget plan.”
What?!!!
You read it right. Assembly Democrats Morse Arberry, Barbara Buckley, Sheila Leslie and Debbie Smith “joined to vote for the series of a dozen budget cuts” which were “universally opposed by Assembly Republicans Heidi Gansert and John Marvel.”
And you wonder why I left the GOP?
