In yet another of her “Nevada Stinks” email missives to supporters, Senate Minority Leader Dina Titus (D-Las Vegas) penned the following this week:
“I have said for years that we must move our state to the top of every good list and away from the bottom of every bad list. Consider this in just the health care arena: We are 48th in the nation in the number of physicians per 100,000 residents. We’re 49th for nurses and 48th for dentists. We are 47th in terms of Medicaid coverage. We are 37th in terms of behavioral or mental health care spending.”
The Titus rant continues, “Our schools are packed, our roads are jammed and our emergency rooms are standing room only.”
And yet…
Nevada is still 2nd in the nation in growth. And according to the Tax Foundation, Nevada’s state/local tax burden is among the nation’s lowest and our business tax climate is ranked at #4 (neighboring California is ranked 45th).
If Nevada really stinks as badly as Sen. Titus says it does, (a) why do so many people keep moving in, and (b) why doesn’t Sen. Titus move out?

Wow! All these low rankings regarding Nevada are disturbing. As I recall, Ms. Titus has been in office for some time now. Seems to me she and the rest of the ruling class in Carson City may be good at being cry babies but aren’t very effective at solving the problems of Nevada.
Roadblock Raggio! 11-10 wins every time. Ball is in THEIR court, Bruce, to “fix” these issues, and since they don’t, obviously they aren’t the problems of Nevada!
Dina is saying what are the purported facts; don’t kill the messenger;
People move here for jobs and not to shovel snow;
All these people moving here lower the ratio if the positions don’t get filled;
BUT, I see Elko has less than $250,000 to pay for roads for FY07-08 and people are bitching about it!! I don’t understand, I thought they would love getting dirt roads back in the Rurals? But they are ready to donate $10,000 to the Elko Rifle Club. What’s that old sayin, “guns and butter”?
This site is truly a great resource thanks for all your hard work
