So apparently the White House is now looking for a “war czar” for Iraq to, as the Associated Press puts it, “keep turf-conscious agencies marching in the same direction on military, political and reconstruction fronts.” Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich says the person selected should report directly to President Bush and focus on cutting the red tape which he believes serves as the biggest obstacle to success in Iraq. Um, but isn’t that what the Secretary of Defense is for? Couldn’t we just change the name of this position back to Secretary of War?
