Duking It Out Over Foreign Policy

If Rudy Giuliani is afraid to merely debate Ron Paul on foreign policy, how is the world are we supposed to trust his ability to deal with the likes of Osama bin Laden, that crazy Iranian guy, the crazy North Korean guy or even that crazy Hugo Chavez guy?

Sure, Rudy showed tremendous leadership in responding to a local disaster as mayor of New York City on 9/11, but those action hardly “prove” he possesses the judgment necessary to play on the world stage, nor does it show any level of deep understanding of foreign policy.

I’m not saying he doesn’t; I’m saying it’s unproved.

So when “America’s Mayor” distorted Rep. Ron Paul’s position on the Iraq war during the South Carolina GOP presidential debate a week ago, Paul immediately challenged Giuliani to a foreign policy debate, and CNS News reports that Paul “offered Giuliani a ‘reading assignment’ of books examining U.S. policy toward the Middle East.

Thus far, Mr. Giuliani has declined the challenge.

Considering what a big deal the mayor made of twisting the congressman’s words with his soundbite response in South Carolina, a one-on-one debate to clarify matters would be in order and in the best interests of Republican primary voters…not to mention the nation as a whole.

I’ve not agreed with Ron Paul on all his positions on the war; however, I know the man is thoughtful, consistent and bases his positions on the wisdom of our Founding Fathers. So a head-to-head foreign policy debate between the GOP’s leading constitutionalist and the GOP’s leading presidential contender would not only be enlightening, it would educational and entertaining as well.

And it’s safer than pistols at twenty paces.

Gentlemen, to your podiums!

  1. That is an incredible article…………….why doesnt he debate Paul? You make a great point. For that matter we should have some one on ones between the others as well, But I for one am waiting for the Paul/Gulliani debate, there should be fireworks and popcorn at that one!!!!

  2. […] Chuck Muth posts on this in ‘Duking It Out Over Foreign Policy’. As someone who is well acquainted with Rep. Paul, Chuck deserves a listen. […]
