Subject to any last-minute shenanigans, the 2007 Legislature will come to a close with no new direct tax increases. By sticking to his campaign promise and threat to veto “any and all efforts to raise taxes,” Gov. Gibbons forced legislators to find other alternatives and finally set some spending priorities. And this has Clark County Commissioner and former Nevada Democrat Party Chairman Tom Collins foaming at the mouth.
“Our legislators cut the best deal we could under this stupid pledge of the governor’s,” Collins spat to the Las Vegas Sun after using an “obscenity” to describe Gov. Gibbons. “They had to cut the best deal they could with this yahoo from Sparks.”
That’s class, Tom. Real class.
Now…would you like some cheese with that whine?

This is all just a prelude to 2009. The next legislative session in 2009 will be all out Armageddon for the Democrats, liberals, special interests, etc. They’re going to go all out to ruin the state in the next two years so they can blame it on Gibbons (”Things are so bad because he refuses to allow necessary tax hikes in a growing state that needs the additional revenue”) and destroy his chances for re-election in 2010. Dealing with the governor’s “no new taxes” pledge for four years is bad enough. It’ll be disastrous for them if they have to deal with it for eight years.
