The Heart of an “Anchor Baby”

So there’s this little girl in San Francisco named Hazelle Roa. She’s 17-months old and the Associated Press reports that she has a “little-known genetic abnormality” and was scheduled “for an exploratory heart procedure Thursday that would seek to open up a constricted heart valve and help doctors decide whether she would need further heart surgery.”

You wouldn’t have a heart if you didn’t feel for little Hazelle, wish her well and maybe even say a prayer for her. But the situation is a bit more complicated than that. You see, little Hazelle is what is commonly and derisively referred to as an “anchor baby.”

It turns out Hazelle’s parents entered the United States from Mexico illegally in 1990 and were under order to leave the country by July 26. However, because of little Hazelle’s medical condition, immigration officials have extended the deportation order for an additional year, under the assumption that the medical care little Hazelle would get in Mexico wouldn’t be as good as the medical care she’s getting the U.S.

But the Roas aren’t satisfied with the temporary one-year stay. They want their case reopened and “also want permanent residency under a rule that allows undocumented immigrants to remain if their departure would cause extreme hardship to an American citizen.”

Hazelle, you see, “was born in the United States and has been followed by a team of physicians at the University of California, San Francisco’s Medical Center.” And that team of physicians “have written letters in support of keeping her family in the United States, saying the child was unlikely to get the medical attention she needs to live a full life elsewhere.”

Hmmm. It’s going to be exceedingly difficult to comment on this situation without risking being portrayed as a cold-hearted bastard. But since that’s never stopped me before, let’s have a go at it.

As for the doctors’ contention that the Roas should be allowed to continue living in the United States because they won’t likely be able to live as full a life elsewhere, well…duh. That could be said for perhaps 95 percent of the entire population of Mexico and 99.9 percent of the inhabitants of most Third World countries. Do we let them all in?

And I’m wondering exactly when the deportation order was first issued. Knowing how slowly the wheels of government bureaucracy grind, especially in immigration matters, it could have well been several years ago. The deportation order was likely delayed and held up over one appeal after another.

Now, by my public school calculations, little Hazelle was born sometime after 2005. The AP story doesn’t mention any other siblings, so it’s possible that little Hazelle is the Roas only child. Which means that after going 15 long years without having any children whatsoever, suddenly and coincidentally they have one just as they’re ordered to leave the country they entered illegally?

And this, my friends, is what the birthright citizenship - or “anchor baby” - debate is all about.

The fact is many illegal aliens come to this country for the sole purpose of having a child in order to get a leg up on attaining legal status down the road; not just for them, but for their entire extended families. It’s called “chain migration.” The empathy one might have for little Hazelle’s medical condition doesn’t make this aspect of this explosive issue go away.

The other question I’d love to see answered is who, exactly, is paying the bills for this team of doctors who want little Hazelle to remain in their care? And who’s paying the hospital’s bill? For something as serious as a heart condition, the expense must be astronomical. Are the doctors and the medical center and all the support personnel who are providing treatment and services to little Hazelle doing so pro bono?

Or are American taxpayers picking up the tab?

One of the key underlying problems in trying to resolve the illegal immigration matter today is that there are about 12-20 million similar human interest stories behind every potential deportation hearing; perhaps not as dramatic as little Hazelle’s, but certainly significant in a major way to the people affected. And that has to be weighed against the necessity of enforcing the rule of law in a civilized society, and the right of a country to protect the character, culture, and physical safety of its citizens. So don’t expect this issue to be resolved anytime soon.

In the meantime, we all wish the best for little Hazelle.

  1. In my opinion the 14th amendment of our Constitution clearly sttes the requirements of birth rights and an “ILLEGAL” in the U.S.A. who gives birth only means that there is one more “ILLEGAL” in the U.S.A. that should be immediately deported. It is only human to feel for the child involved in the case mentioned but I am also aware that the “POLITICALLY CORRECT” and “CRY BABIES” of our country are willing to give everything that “WE, UNITED STATES CITIZENS” hold dear and are willing to put our lives on the line to preserve. These people are sorry that “YOU HAVE BUT ONE LIFE TO GIVE ” to protect their freedom.
WHEN WILL THE POLITICIANS, DO-GOODERS, AND CRY-BABIES RECOGNIZE THAT WE ARE IN THE SAME BOAT AND WHEN THEY SHOOT THE BOTTOM OUT OF THE BOAT, WEE WILL ALL GO DOWN TOGETHER. “IF YOU HANG THEM ALL ” you will get the guilty but just remember they will get you also.
I am a Veteran of the WWII and I spent the entire war with Japan in the Jungles of the Pacific so I think that I know whereof I speak. Thanks

  2. It is a heartbreaking and unforgivable situation caused by the failure of our elected officials to enforce immigration laws.

  3. Mr. Muth, your article is all that is wrong with conservative thought today. You rely on your own emotionally drawn conclusions - conclusions you’ve formulated first and then afterwards set out to invent the evidence. You want to demonize people, and have no interest in what it means to be an American, and, separately, what it means to be a Christian.

    Christians believe:

Exodus 22:21 - “You shall not wrong or oppress a resident alien, for you were aliens in the land of Egypt.”

Leviticus 19:34 - “The alien who resides among you shall be to you as the citizen among you; you shall love the alien as yourself, for you were aliens in the land of Egypt; I am the Lord your God.”

New Testament Letter to the Hebrews - “Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for by doing so some have entertained angels unawares.”

Deuteronomy14:19 - “The Levite, because he has no portion of inheritance among you, and the alien, the orphan and the widow who are in your town, shall come and eat and be satisfied, in order that the Lord your God may bless you in all the work of your hand which you do.”

Deuteronomy 27:19 - “Cursed is he who distorts the justice due an alien, orphan, and widow. And all the people shall say Amen.”

Malachi 3:5 - “I will be swift to bear witness against….those who oppress the hired workers in their wages, the widow and the orphan, against those who thrust aside the alien, and do not fear me, says the Lord of Hosts.”

    Americans understand:

“Born in other countries, yet believing you could be happy in this, our laws acknowledge, as they should do, your right to join us in society, conforming, as I doubt not you will do, to our established rules. That these rules shall be as equal as prudential considerations will admit, will certainly be the aim of our legislatures, general and particular.” –Thomas Jefferson to Hugh White, 1801. ME 10:258

“Shall we refuse the unhappy fugitives from distress that hospitality which the savages of the wilderness extended to our fathers arriving in this land? Shall oppressed humanity find no asylum on this globe? The Constitution, indeed, has wisely provided that for admission to certain offices of important trust a residence shall be required sufficient to develop character and design. But might not the general character and capabilities of a citizen be safely communicated to every one manifesting a bona fide purpose of embarking his life and fortunes permanently with us?” –Thomas Jefferson: 1st Annual Message, 1801. ME 3:338

“It [has] been the wise policy of these states to extend the protection of their laws to all those who should settle among them of whatever nation or religion they might be and to admit them to a participation of the benefits of civil and religious freedom, and… the benevolence of this practice as well as its salutary effects [has] rendered it worthy of being continued in future times.” –Thomas Jefferson: Proclamation, 1781. Papers 4:505

“America is now, I think, the only country of tranquility and should be the asylum of all those who wish to avoid the scenes which have crushed our friends in [other lands].” –Thomas Jefferson to Mrs. Church, 1793. FE 6:289

  4. Ruth: So one of the requirements of being an American and being a Christian is to be willing to condone violations of the law?

  5. We Americans have overflowing hearts and give to charity in excess of any people on the planet. As the mother of a child who had a horrible heart defect I can feel the utmost sympathy for this child but having said that, we have enough children needing their bodies repaired in this country to keep the doctors very busy for a long time.
We cannot take in every person who wants to come here. That would be most of the earth;s population. We cannot provide medical care for all ho need it. When every American has good medical care we can share the rest. When every American has food and housing and education we can share the rest of that to. Until then, let’s take care of Americans first and let’s send the rest back to where they fame from.

  6. Let Ruth and all the bleeding hearts like her sponsor and be responsible for these immigrants.. They should be required to take them into their homes until they are Americanized and on their own..That may take years.. I suspect she is a well to do Liberal that inherited her money and lives in an immigrant free gated or Suburban nieghborhood..

  7. Back in Thomas Jefferson’s day and time this country was just beginning and aliens wishing to immigrate to this then young country, were permitted to do so so that they could escape the tyranny of the country they just left. As our United Stetes began to grow and expand, immigration laws were enacted to keep a handle on the immigration process. Quoting verses from the Bible concerning the ancient Hebrews who were led from the tyranny of Egypt, as I see it, just concerned the treatment of aliens of that time, not today. Too many illegals want to come here to destroy our culture and way of life and they must be kept out. Immigrants are welcome if they come here legally and go through the process. In the meantime, they must learn the language, ENGLISH, which is the official language of this land and they should prove their loyalty to this count;ry and flag, one nation under God.
I am a Christian and believe the Bible is the inerrant word of God, but we are a land of laws based on the Ten Commandments of God, and we cannot permit illegals to enter this country and not be deported, no matter how many children they give birth to while they are here, illegally. When the next bus or train, or plane leaves town, they should be on lit back to the place from whence they came. The only reason the politicians want to create amnesty for the illegals, is for the Hispanic vote at the polls. As I see it and understand the Constitution of the United States, illegal immigrants have no rights and privilleges of a true US Citizen

The medical people who are working with little Hazelle, whose parents are from Mexico, should go to Mexico with the parents and the little girl and do the necessary procedures there if they are afraid that she will not get the proper care needed and let the government of Mexico pay for the bill. Nuff said.

  8. Start enforcing the laws immediately now and stop dilli dallying with all kinds of bleeding heart stories. The longer we wait the more illegals will have babies just so they can stay in America and get welfare and all other freebies.

What American ever made such an incredible ignorant decision regarding anchor babies? It must have been a Liberal!

  9. Jesus said, “Render unto Caesar that which is Caesar’s.” For those who don’t understand, he’s separating the kingdom of God from the government of mankind. Your money and all the material things of this world are subject to the determination of mankind and it’s government. Jesus refused to intrude on that realm.

The commands of the bible are to individuals, not to governments. Government regulates our material life while God directs our spiritual life. Those who cannot understand that distinction are the ones causing all the problems relating to separation of church and state. Unless you’re an idiot, you do not treat your wife and your 10 year old daughter the same way. For women, you do not treat your husband and your 10 year old son the same way. The rules are different, the actions are different.

The “strangers and aliens” referred to in the bible are those who knock on your front door, not those who sneak in the back door in the dead of night. Once again, there’s a big difference.

Remember, when Moses was on the mountain, God commanded him to go down quickly because “Your people have corrupted themselves.” Try not to make that mistake in this situation…

  10. So what I hear you saying is that Jesus would have wanted us to deport Hazelle and her parents, and that Thomas Jefferson is outdated. Do we want to set those precedents?

  11. Ruth: Because some of us want the laws of this country to be enforced, how does it follow that we’re not good Americans, not good Christians, and believe that Thomas Jefferson is outdated?

  12. Ruth, I read your extremely lengthy writing. It is my opinion that you are really confused as to what it means to be a Christian.

Is it perhaps that you yourself are in our Country illegally and you are trying to justify to yourself and convince us the readers that you really didn’t do anything wrong?

Illegal aliens are not respecting the laws of our land and therefore are criminals and are not entitled to any social services.

As Mr. Chuck Muth writes: The fact is many illegal aliens come to this country for the sole purpose of having a child in order to get a leg up on attaining legal status down the road; not just for them, but for their entire extended families. It’s called “chain migration.” The empathy one might have for little Hazelle’s medical condition doesn’t make this aspect of this explosive issue go away.

As George wrote in his article — “Render unto Caesar that which is Caesar’s.”

Dear Ruth — is that so hart for you to understand?

And yes, in the meantime, we all wish the best for little Hazelle.

  13. I am a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

  14. Eva: Why is it necessary to get personal and accuse someone of being an illegal alien just because that person believes that illegal aliens (all or some, I’m not sure what Ruth’s position is exactly) should be permitted to remain in this country? Do you believe that only racial minorities can support affirmative action? Do you believe that only women can support abortion rights? Do you believe that only farmers can support agriculture subsidies? Then why is it that you suspect Ruth of being in the US illegally because she thinks that the Roas should be permitted to remain in the country despite entering illegally?

  15. Ruth et.al.,

Well done on your biblical research! However, as you know, the Bible also teaches us in the New Testament to obey the laws of governement, as no government is set without God’s command. So by being “illegal” they are not compliant with God’s command. Yes, communities are to be kind to the aliens in their population, but as we know from our Constitutional history, an alien is one who is not “a fugitve of the law” and as they are “illegal” they are denied the vaulted status of “alien”.

Mexico is so corrupt their citizens flee and yet the US attacks another country (Iraq), half way around the world and outside our hemisphere on the pretext of humanitary concerns. Sigh. How much more worthy would it have been to spend our blood and treasurer in our own hemisphere, on our own borders? We would be much safer today if we had.

  16. Ruth, you declare that you are a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. OK — but did you know that John Murtha was a soldier in the American military and look what he is doing now. Just in case you don’t know — he is undermining the war in Iraq by accusing our troops of being killers. He has blood on his hands and needs to apologies to these brave soldiers who are found not guilty recently.

Ruth, America is a Country of laws. A true Daughter of the American Revolution would not help undermine Americas laws. So, just like Murtha — you to undermine our laws and you to are hurting America.

America does not need any more enemies especially ones from within.

  17. This is a huge problem for me. I take this VERY personal.

My baby was born 2 months premautre w/ a rare four fold heart defect. We almost ran out of health insurance (well, for 3 months we were told that we were out of health insurance ~ but it all worked out in the end.)
My baby has had two open heart surgeries and will need additional heart surgeries in the future. He also has several other health issues.

We had no good options in this state. My baby did not qualify for regular Medicaid because we earned over the poverty level,

we were ineligible to purchase private health insurance for various reasons.
We were advised to divorce so I could be a poor single mother.

We were advised by a state official to move out of state to another state that offers a high risk pool, told that my husband “could just quit his job” as a police officer here in Las Vegas and get another job in hopes of getting other insurance, or to give Matthew up for adoption.

While we spent 6 months in the hopsitals… we observed and heard of the babies of illegal aliens getting full medical benefits! But not us?

My husband is a Gulf War Veteran… and LV police officer… but we had didn’t qualify ~ but the baby of an illegal did???
    How is that right?

We were also told that if our baby were to need a heart transplant, that we would need $100,000 cash up front just to be placed on a waiting list.
But then I heard about the baby of an illegal alien that got a fully paid for heart transplant. Yep, the mother found out in Mexico that her baby had a heart defect… came here to Las Vegas to have her “anchor baby.”
Now the State of Nevada has taken care of this baby.. and will probably end up taking care of for the rest of it’s life.

    All I am saying here…
is MY BABY DESERVES THE SAME MEDICAL CARE THAT THE BABY OF AN ILLEGAL IS AFFORDED.

    Thank you,
    Terri ~ Las Vegas

  18. Hi,

    yes,
I can spell “premature” and “hospitals”! Please excuse me!!

I was all excited and feverishly typing ~ didn’t do a quick proof read until I had finished.
DOH! I also see a sentence I screwed up on.

    Sorry about that.

    Terri ~ Las Vegas

  19. Ruth:
If you feel so strongly about the little girl, pay for her operation yourself, or join a service organization and raise the funds that way. It is not the taxpayers’ place to pay for your feelings in the matter. And, yes, I do think she and her family should be deported.

    End of story.

Oh, by the way, I am a proud member of one of those service organizations and contribute both my time and money to its good works.

  20. Terri, I am very sorry to hear about your baby. Yours seems a tragic situation. And I could not help but wonder immediately after reading your story if your son and your family wouldn’t have been better off in California where Hazelle is. Nevada seems hard on young families, public employees and veterans. There is absolutely no reason your son, an American citizen like Hazelle, shouldn’t receive the same care at the same cost.

John Smith, to follow up in what (may be) a question about where I stand on illegal immigration - I think it is an incredibly complex issue. And I often find my Christian upbringing at odds with public sentiment about illegal immigration. But, I decided to write here now because of what Mr. Muth wrote in particular. I find Muth’s conclusions irrational and dishonest. He is claiming that Hazelle’s parents intentionally had a baby with a congenital defect in order to stay in the United States. First, I’m not sure how a couple can intentionally have a baby with a congenital defect. Second, to suggest that Hazelle’s parents wanted her to be born with a defect is, frankly, disgusting. And, to claim that Hazelle shouldn’t be a citizen of the United States simply flies against the tradition of citizenship that has been with us since the founding of the Republic. If you are born here, you are a citizen. This is the way it has always been.

It seems to me that comments like Mr. Muth’s are simply meant to build irrational ferver and do nothing to create an honest dialogue about a complex and clearly upsetting issue.

In short, Terri’s son deserves quality health care that doesn’t cause her family to go bankrupt. And Hazelle, by our own legal definition, is a citizen of this country. She should be afforded the appropriate rights, regardless of what her parents have or have not done.

  21. I just re-read Mr. Muth’s statement. I couldn’t find anything that implies that he thinks that the Roas intentionally had a baby with a congenital defect. Can you quote anything in his statement that says or implies this?

What Mr. Muth does say is “that after going 15 long years without having any children whatsoever, suddenly and coincidentally they have one just as they’re ordered to leave the country they entered illegally?” This could be interpreted as accusing the Roas of intentionally having a baby to avoid deportation. However, the San Francisco Chronicle reported on July 13 that the Board of Immigration Appeals ruled back in November 2004 that the Roas were in the country illegally and needed to leave the country immediately. It was only after they refused to leave that the ICE issued a formal deportation order earlier this year. The timing of these events (the initial ruling by the Board of Immigration Appeals vs. the birth of Hazelle) is pretty suspicious, so I don’t blame Mr. Muth for questioning the Roas’ motives for having a baby when they did.

Regarding your statement that Terri’s “son and your family wouldn’t have been better off in California where Hazelle is,” did you read Terri’s statement? Terri writes, “While we spent 6 months in the hopsitals… we observed and heard of the babies of illegal aliens getting full medical benefits! But not us?” She also writes, “But then I heard about the baby of an illegal alien that got a fully paid for heart transplant. Yep, the mother found out in Mexico that her baby had a heart defect… came here to Las Vegas to have her ‘anchor baby.’ Now the State of Nevada has taken care of this baby.. and will probably end up taking care of for the rest of it’s life.” According to those statements, the health care needed by Terri’s son is available in Nevada. You just have to be an illegal alien or an anchor baby to obtain those services. So what’s wrong with this picture?

  22. C.S. Lewis wrote in The Abolition of Man that “a hard heart is no infallible protection against a soft head,” but a soft heart does not guarantee right thinking, either. Disregarding the rule of law to “help” illegal immigrants is a paradoxical way of hurting them. The rule of law is the sustainer of the free and prosperous society that draws immigrants to the States. It is something immigrants’ own countries often cannot guarantee them, and it is what makes ours look so appealing. And if we shirk the rule of law — if laws of entry can be applied to some immigrants but not to others — we are cheating all immigrants out of the kind of society they are seeking in the first place.

By the way Ruth, I agree with Rosemary — she writes:

If you feel so strongly about the little girl, pay for her operation yourself, or join a service organization and raise the funds that way. It is not the taxpayers’ place to pay for your feelings in the matter. And, yes, I do think she and her family should be deported. End of story.

Ruth — as a proud “Daughter of the American Revolution” you should be able to raise the money for Hazelle from the organization you belong to (if they all agree with your feelings) — if not you might find yourself expelled.

Dear Terri: Thank you very much for your article. I feel for you and your baby. I know that there are many similar cases throughout America. But then you get bleeding hearts like Ruth on the wrong side of the debate who undermine our laws and hurt our Citizens in America. God bless you and may HE restore your baby to perfect health.

By the way the debate on Hazelle being a United States Citizen is still being debated by bleeding hearts like Ruth but should have been abolished a long time ago. By the grace of God I hope our politicians will wake up to this fact and do something about it immediately.

This outdated rule regarding automatic Citizenship makes no more sense than Ruth going back and trying to apply rules and laws from ancient Egypt.

  23. Yes, from what I understand…. had Matthew been born in California…
    he’d be covered by California Children’s Services…..

I think it’s considered the Medically Fragile Program and it’s a very expensive program… the state taxes pay for it.

I don’t know how it all works there … but I think if we moved to California….
he’d be covered because he was born w/ a congenital heart defect. ??

I also believe if we lived in Massachussets & New York, he’d be covered, too.

But everything is so very complex and confusing ~ it’s hard to know for sure.

Thank God for us… the LV Metropolitan Police Dept. Board of Trustees raised the lifetime cap in November of 2006 ~ so Matthew does have more insurance…. as well as all the police officers and their families.

Had they not raised that cap…we’d be in another place right now.

    Thank you!

  24. Sorry for “spamming” this site.. but

Mike and I did speak before the legislators last August and this past April. We are trying to get a Medicaid “buy in” bill passed (SB59 introduced by Senator Heck) … but it failed a few weeks ago. We earned too much for this program ~ it would not have helped us… but it would have helped 40 other NV families.
Senator Heck said he will introduce the bill again in two years.

We were just interviewed by National Public Radio…
I think you can listen to it on their site… KNPR.

We’ve been on KVBC a few times this past year.

  25. Eva: Thank you for your kind words. We will always take prayers for Matthew.

John: For those first 18 months of Matthew’s life… I couldn’t help but be bitter. I couldn’t help but think that Matthew would have been better off had I been illegal or poor.

We do need some kind of safety net for middle class families. There is a donut hole. No one asks to be sick.. have a sick child… run out of health insurance. I understand our case is rare, but I do know of two other LV families of cardiac babies that have run out of health insurance. Both families are middle class hard working families.

I was also told by healthcare professionals, that we are paying for those that don’t. Our insurance is basically paying for those 6 beds around us that isn’t paying.

Thank you again for allowing me to vent.

    Terri ~ Las Vegas

  26. One more thing…

you can talk to any NICU nurse … they will tell you that “anchor babies” are being born here in Las Vegas at an alarming rate.

They wish our politicians knew how bad the problem is.

  27. Terri: Most middle class families have the same experience regarding insurance matters. But just remember: God will never give you more than you can handle. Everything that happens is happening for a reason.

You are doing something about your situation and that is a very good thing.

America has and still is — even as I write this — being invaded by illegals streaming across our open borders.

Most of us Americans were asleep for years while this was going on. We were relying on our politicians to do what’s right.

The best thing that could have ever happen was when the hordes of illegals started to march in our Cities demanding rights that not even we as Citizens enjoyed. These illegals screamed loud enough and now they awakened a sleeping giant and by the Grace of God we are being vigilant again.

I am so frustrated myself with what is going on in our Country regarding things, especially with these illegals. So I am doing everything I can to reverse this tide. Today I wrote to all the Senators. It’s really easy — you just go to google and they have all the websites where you can leave a message. It takes a while but I am fighting for my Country.

You can copy my letter or add your own — this is what I wrote:

    WHERE’S MY FENCE?

Grassroots citizens made their wishes quite clear during this latest failed amnesty push. We want the fence built and our borders secured.

I am hearing all kinds of rhetoric that leadership has our security at the forefront of their minds, however, when I learn that only 13.01 miles of fencing has been built since the President signed into law The Secure Fence Act of 2006 authorizing 854 miles of two-layered reinforced fencing along the southwest border-and that fence is only primary fence (meaning it is not double-layered as promised), I fear American citizens are being played off as fools by leadership.

I can assure you, I am no fool, and I will not stop rattling cages until my fence is build and our borders are secured. Build the fence that was promised. Make it a commitment, and champion efforts to complete it in a timely fashion. As you know, it is what Americans want, and it is the law. Sincerely,

  28. Terri: I think the politicians do know how bad the problem is. The Las Vegas Review-Journal just ran a three part series on the impact of illegal immigration. Yesterday (July 17), the newspaper printed an editorial re-cap of the series. One of the Review-Journal’s conclusions is that it’s difficult if not impossible to obtain any statistics on illegal immigration’s economic impacts. No one knows how many illegals there are exactly (the Review-Journal estimates between 120,000 and 200,000 in Clark County, which means 160,000 +/- 40,000, which is a 25% margin of error). And no one is keeping track of the costs to our education system, health care system or criminal justice system. As the Review-Journal pointed out, government keeps track of just about every mundane statistic imagineable. Why aren’t they tracking and publicizing any statistics regarding the burden immigration places on our economy and society? The only reason I can think of is that the government knows that if this information becomes available, there will be a huge outcry to take drastic action on this issue. What I don’t understand is why the government wouldn’t want to take action to protect our country.

  29. Correction to my previous statement: “regarding the burden immigration places on our economy and society” should read “regarding the burden ILLEGAL immigration places on our economy and society.”

  30. John Smith: I agree with you — it is illegals that are causing tremendous harm to our economy, our society and our environment. They are turning our Country — City by City — into a third world Country — that is — if we the people let them and stand by and do nothing to stop them.

In our City alone — 10 hospitals closed because of none payment by illegals. You can see closings happening throughout our Country. Our incredible stupid Mayor declared our City a sanctuary City for illegals. Of course the shock to our economy, our environment, the overcrowding on our streets and in medical facilities, Spanish spoken everywhere does not effect him in the least. He now is trying to find creative ways of increasing taxes on us the middle class so we can pay for their food stamps and medical expences. Many wealthy individuals have those same kind of views as our Mayor. Illegals don’t effect them and after all they make great slaves for them, provide cheap labor.

Then you have the bleeding hearts like Ruth, who mistakenly believe and feel that America owes something to all the poor of the world because of their mistaken believes that there are laws from God — from way back in ancient Egypt that should make us accept all these illegal invaders into our homes. These bleeding hearts including many leaders of the Roman Catholic and other Churches believe that we should give amnesty to all illegals, overlooking fraud, terrorism, murder and child molestation committed by them. And last but not least you have many greedy politicians who want to give amnesty to illegals so they can stay in office forever.

Last year we were promised a fence to close our open borders, to slow down the flood of invaders. But these same politicians are dragging their feet now. That is why we the people “By The Grace Of God” must set some fire beneath their feed to get them moving. We must write our letters and make phone calls to all our politicians! It does work!

While our brave military men and women fighting the Islamo Fascists in Iraq for our freedom we must fight at home by making our voices heard loud and clear that we want America for Americans and not Illegals, that we want to win this war and not put our tail between our legs and run. Most of all we must defeat the enemy from within — all those traitors who want to undermine our laws, our war, our military, our Country.

America is a Country of laws and if anyone wants to stay here they must obey our laws or else leave and go back where they came from and take there anchor babies with them and start marching and demanding rights in the streets of their own Country and fix their corrupt governments.

We the American people are fed up with all those who hate Americans.

We are fed up with Illegal Aliens and their demands on us.

We the American people are not going to take it any more!!!

  31. I have written to our Senators and our Congressman … the Governor as well….. :-)
trust me… I write them all the time re: illegal immigration…

My husband was told that there are only two ICE agents to cover all of Southern Nevada. I was also told that Las Vegas
    IS a Sanctuary City.

I have also been told that most illegals driving in this town… do so without car insurance. That must be part of why my “uninsured motorist” charges more than doubled.

My husband was rear ended (while on duty) by a drunk illegal alien that did not have a license and no car insurance. The illegal tried to flee the scene.

They didn’t even go to court. Hum….

    Anyhoo…
what can be done about the anchor babies?

  32. What can be done about the anchor babies? One option would be for a court case to be brought before the Supreme Court, with hopes that the Supremes will return the meaning of the 14th Amendment back to its original intent. Another option would be to enact a law restoring the 14th Amendment back to its original intent, and hope that no federal court overturns the law.

Unfortunately, neither option seems feasible given the current political climate. The only thing that might change this climate is the growing outrage of Americans as they learn the economic costs to this country of the anchor baby situation. That’s probably the main reason the government doesn’t want anyone to know these costs. It all begs the question, though, of why does the government have no interest in defending this country from all enemies, foreign and domestic, and why doesn’t the government consider illegal immigration and its repercussions to pose a domestic threat to our country?

  33. Hi John,
I just replied to your reply. It is lost? I will wait a day to see if it turns up.
It was quite long and I don’t want to type it over if I don’t have to.

  34. We must take our Country back. We must write our Senators and let them know we are watching each and every one of them closely regarding giving our hard earned taxes to illegal aliens.

Instead of having a slumber party to placate MoveOn.org last night they should have discussed the problem regarding illegal alien invaders in our midst and how to deal with them.

An all night party to discuss Anchor Babies would have been of much more value then talking about the war in Iraq. Democrats promised to wait for a report before coming to a final conclusion about the war. I guess they couldn’t wait any longer.

I want to share a story with you I just read. You will not find it reported anywhere in the general media.

Today, with the liberal State bureaucracies firmly in control of the educational system in the United States, and politicians at both State and federal level kowtowing to groups like the National Council of LaRaza, the US Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, the US-Mexico Chamber of Commerce, the Hispanic Scholarship Fund, the League of United Latin American Citizens, the Mexican-American Legal Defense and Educational Fund and scores of other Hispanic advocacy groups, elected officials at both State and national levels are leveraging government to provide not only free elementary and secondary school education to illegal aliens in the United States, but to provide them with college education as well at no cost—or at instate student rates. The cost for all that liberal largess has to be paid by someone. When the voters rebel against tax hikes, colleges and universities are forced to raise the tuition. And, in the end, the working class taxpayer foots the bills.

When GOP members of the House fought, first, to send The College Cost Reduction Act of 2007 back to committee for at least a semblance of debate—which would then hit the media, they were shot down in a 229 to 199 vote. When it became clear some form of the legislation was going to pass, Congressman Howard P. “Buck” McKeon argued if the House leadership believed the student loan subsidy program was pork that needed to be trimmed from the hog, the GOP countered that if the Democratic leadership felt an obligation to slaughter the pig, the pork needed to be returned to the larder.

McKeon offered a substitute version of the bill that would leave the lender subsidy program with $4 billion to back student loans (instead of none), pay down the deficit with $9 billion, and divert $6 billion rather than give the whole hog to the Pell grant program. Angrily, Speaker Nancy Pelosi denounced the GOP effort, arguing that the $18 billion “…is the cost of six weeks in Iraq.”

  35. Terri: It happened in Las Vegas!!!

This article I just came across is as bad as the Anchor Baby situation.

    DOGGONE IT!

“Washington state is one location that has embraced liberal (voter) registration laws. So liberal, in fact, that it took more than a year and three elections before officials actually removed Duncan M. McDonald from the voter rolls. Duncan, you see, is an Australian shepherd-terrier mix. A dog.

“Duncan’s owner, 66-year-old Jane K. Balogh, holds the opinion that Washington’s election laws make it too easy for non-citizens to cast ballots. To prove her point, she put her phone bill in her dog’s name and used that as identification when she mailed in a voter registration form for her pet in April 2006.

“When the dog received an absentee ballot for last November’s election, Ms. Balogh ‘wrote ‘VOID’ across the document and returned it with an image of a paw print on the signature line,’ The Associated Press reported. But the dog subsequently received absentee ballots for local school board elections in February and May.

“…And, in the meantime…you saw this coming, right?…the Seattle bureaucrats are prosecuting Ms. Balogh for making a false or misleading statement to a public official on the registration application. Really.”

  36. Ah geez!

  37. Every society has to change with the times to continue to exist and prosper in a positive direction. The laws our fore fathers designed were made for a much smaller group of people and a different time. America was created as a Christian nation hoping that, with the guidence of the Lord, it would flourish and be a better place than others to live in. However, religious obligations were not required of the population to limit control and tyranny. Responsiblity and total freedom was perscribed for all that were commited to obey its’ laws and respect their neighbors. This system worked and was well tuned for the time for which it was written.

As times changed so did many of our laws. Unfortunately, we left the door open for the fox to enter the kitchen. We allowed lawyers to become or work alongside polititians without regulation and public control. The lobbyist and corporates soon infiltrated the very core of our legal system and now control every facet for their own collective profits. America has been packeged and sold.

In this light it is easier to see why our foreign policies have created negative results in most of the world. And makes clear why our boarders are still open. And why more laws are being broken and efforts to correct these matters aren’t taking place. Our laws are antiquated and need to be changed. As a population, we are regulated to a mode of acceptance to all the bizare infractions of our protective constitution. All the things that we originally protected ourselves from have now become acceptable everyday events. We have given away our control.

We need to learn from other countries that have been in our postition. We need to stop believing that by giving everything to everyone we will be accepted by those who don’t like us. The Utopian Society never existed and never will. America is an aggressive capitalistic country that was created and grew at an astounding rate because it’s formula for success was sound. Any change from that would destroy this nation. Our only hope is to accept who we are and maintain our course.

Changing laws to eliminate law breakers isn’t the answer. Enforcing those on the books will. Cutting red tape to enable the laws we currently view as clumsy and ineffective will be necessary. Adjusting the penalties for those who break the laws has to be done. The respect for our laws hinges on people knowing that if they break them, the penalty will be costly. The death penalty not only is an asset but a deterrent to capital crime. If a person is sentenced to 10 years he/she is confined for 10 years. Death row should be eliminated as should as the rights of the criminal once sentenced. Without respect for the law there is none.
