This may surprise you, but President Bush’s Border Patrol chief in Laredo, Texas, recently said at a town hall meeting that the Border Patrol’s job isn’t to stop illegal immigrants, drug dealers or other criminals from crossing the border. A couple of questions: Since when? And…if not the Border Patrol, then who or what IS supposed to control the border and stop illegal aliens, drug dealers and other criminals from entering the United States?

Last week a judge in Kansas ruled that although it is a crime TO ENTER the US without authorization, it isn’t necessarily a crime TO BE IN the US without authorization.
Now we a senior official of the Border Patrol stating that it isn’t the Border Patrol’s job to prevent people from entering the US without authorization.
So the combination of these two things is that no one is going to stop anyone from breaking the law by entering the country without authorization, and once the lawbreaker gets into the country, he/she is no longer a lawbreaker by being here.
“The Nation,” “The Washington Post” and some other publications have claimed that until WWI we had a statute of limitations for illegal immigrants. If someone entered the country illegally and managed to avoid deportation for five years, he/she automatically became a legal immigrant on track for citizenship. These publications advocate going back to that system. I can’t see the American people tolerating that kind of system, and I can’t imagine Congress ever legislating that kind of system. However, I can very easily see some activist federal judge imposing that system on us someday. A combination of a statute of limitations and a Border Patrol that doesn’t see its duty as protecting the borders from illegal entrants will give this country the defacto open borders that the liberals so desperately want.
This story originated in the Washington Times. Another story recently reported by the Washington Times states, “A criminal investigation report says several U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services [USCIS] employees are accused of aiding Islamic extremists with identification fraud and of exploiting the visa system for personal gain.” This is according to a 2006 report from an internal affairs investigation at the agency. An anonymous USCIS employee quoted in the article claims that the allegations go back three years.
The article goes on to say that two weeks ago the Washington Times disclosed “a confidential DEA report substantiating the link between Islamic extremists and Mexican drug cartels….The DEA report also stated that Middle Eastern extremists living in the U.S. — who speak Spanish, Arabic and Hebrew fluently — are posing as Hispanic nationals.”
If the Washington Times article is correct about the USCIS and DEA reports, then I can’t understand how someone can try to compartmentalize illegal immigrants, drug dealers, terrorists, etc. According to the article, they’re all working together to infiltrate this country.

The southwest is running out of water, but Pres. Bush is helping the situation with his surplus of wetbacks! John
John Dennis: I’m afraid I didn’t understand what you meant by your comment. I was wondering if you could explain it.
All the more reason to finish building that fence. Look at what happened in San Diego when Congressman Duncan Hunter built the double fence. It cut crime, drug trafficking, and illegal immigrants from entering the country by 90%. What does that tell ya! Let’s keep them out with the fence so the border patrol won’t have to deal with the crime involved.
Look at the people who are coming across the border too. They aren’t just Mexicans, there are TERRORISTS coming across that border. Do we want another 9/11 or worse? I read that there were Al Queda Iraqis found crossing our borders recently. We need to protect our borders and protect them now.
Check out what Presidential candidate Duncan Hunter has done to make a difference in regard to the border fence…
Duncan Hunter’s Border Fence
The fence is a good start, but it’s just a start. In his book “Outrage,” Dick Morris claims that half of the illegal immigrant population in this country in 2005 entered the country legally. They became illegal when they didn’t leave the country once their visas expired. This was the situation with a majority of the 9/11 hijackers.
So my question is this: If it isn’t the job of the Border Patrol to keep people from entering the U.S. illegally, just exactly what is their job?
