Gov. Jim Gibbons has told everyone in the state that times are tough and some belt-tightening is in order. This has elicited the requisite squeals of opposition by all manner of “government is wonderful” folks, including Las Vegas Mayor Oscar Goodman. To hear Goodman and others tell it, there just isn’t a dime of non-essential money anywhere in their budgets that can be cut. Really?
Get this: Las Vegas officials just approved spending “$800,000 more toward a planned ‘mob museum’ at a historic downtown Las Vegas post office.”
Yet another reason why every entity of government in this state should be required to publish a public “transparency” website which lists each and every expenditure of taxpayer dollars so we all can see EXACTLY where every “essential” dime is going.
