Paslov Salivates over Higher Taxes

A letter-writer in today’s Nevada Appeal takes issue with my support for budget cuts over tax increases. The writer maintains, with a straight face I might add, that “years of budget tightening, budget reductions, and increased productivity pressure on state employees has squeezed out virtually all waste, if any ever existed. Cutting fat is long gone. We’re now cutting bone.”

Whatever this guy is smoking, pass it around.

Nevada’s budgets have grown exponentially for decades now. No general fund state budget, to the best of my knowledge, has EVER been passed which was less than the previous budget. Indeed, recent state budgets have enjoyed double-digit increases over and over and over again. This guy must be using public school math if he thinks that’s what constitutes “budget tightening.”

Oops. He is!

The letter writer is one Eugene Paslov, former state superintendent of Nevada’s public schools. And like a typical Paslovian liberal canine-American, Mr. Eugene says the governor should raise taxes rather than cut spending. What a shocker!

When you consider the quality of the Nevada public education system under Paslov’s management, you’ll understand if I take his advice on this matter with a very tiny grain of salt.
