Despite generally successful efforts to boost its party’s name identification and improve its political credibility at the national level, a Libertarian Party activist at the local level in Texas appears determined to shoot the party in the foot.
Texas Rep. Ron Paul - presently running for the GOP presidential nomination - is a well-known “small l” libertarian who ran as the Libertarian Party’s presidential nominee back in 1988. His wildly successful fundraising efforts and online campaigning this year have been a boon to both the libertarian movement in general and, collaterally, the Libertarian Party.
So naturally, an open-borders Libertarian Party immigration attorney who favors amnesty for illegal aliens announced yesterday he intends to run against Paul for his congressional seat next year. “We need a guest worker program NOW!” says Eugene Flynn. “One way to help get it is to defeat the (immigration) restrictionists such as Ron Paul.”
Some people just don’t know when to leave well enough alone.

I’ve spent a lot of time on the ground in the libertarian and LP community in Texas. You can quote me on this: “There is absolutely no way that Flynn will get the Libertarian Party nomination to run against Ron Paul.”
It won’t even be a close vote.
I do believe the time is ripe for the Liberterian Party I have long held with many LP beliefs. Some are extreme and out of step with todays world and will need some tempering to make the party more acceptable to the times, e.g., Paul’s stance on the war on terror. Dr Paul has been called a lunatic and “certifiably insane” by some in the Rep party who haven’t a clue as to his faith in the Constitution.
As a result of the November 08 primary beginning well in advance of when it should have, including campaigning, we have all been a little indoctrinated and reeducated. As a devout Republican and elected official, I am as disenchanted as so many others. Every time I see elected officials I once supported, I have visions of Lyndon Johnson wearing the wrong party pin on his lapel. Recently, a Union Leader introduced me to some of his colleagues at a social function as the “only f__kin Republican I ever liked.” The room at his home became silent as people weren’t sure if attack upon me was imminent. I calmly stated that the Union Leader, as his candidates do, began spewing information that has not been verified. I explained that I am no longer a Republican and that I support Ron Paul. I explained I did not want to lose my primary voting rights so have not changed my voter registration….yet. To my total amazement, the women in the room came to my aid with statements like, “You mean Conservative like me don’t you?” We then calmly discussed some social Union type issues wherein most of the Union representatives admitted that I had made some very significant points. Duh! If you put your member’s employer out of business with unrealistic demands, a strike that cripples the employers ability to continue the cash flow necessary to keep the business afloat, you just lost your job. Your employer has to negotiate in good faith under the NLRA, (Natl Labor Relations Act). There is a point at which they can tell you go fly a kite. It’s when the real estate the company sits on is more valuable for a “higher and better use” and the owner has enough assets to retire, pack it in, and sell the property to someone who thinks they can compete with China, India, and Indonesia. Negotiations end when the employer says, screw this I’ve had enough legal bills, cash flow problems and people who don’t really understand what it takes to maintain an expensive weekly payroll. That’s when employees scratch their heads, ask the Union Reps what happened. They don’t hear the workers questions though. They are wondering if they will themselves have to get real jobs to keep a roof over their own families heads. It’s called “breaking the Camel’s back, poetic justice, employment suicide, and a lot of other things.”
This election I will not give my vote to the one selected to “beat the liberal” - been there and did that too many cycles over! When so many in this nation see the need to take care of our own home FIRST, and the elected powers that be, along with the media, ignore us, it’s time to move in a different direction when we cast our vote.
How many American’s wondered why so many of the countries that were glad to see us attacked on Septerber 11th, received millions of our tax dollars in foreign aid? Why do we send foreign aid to the major oil producing countries? Why does this country think that it needs to buy friends?
How can we teach our children to be law abiding citizens, when our legislators look the other way concerning illegal aliens? Their first step onto our soil broke our laws and we are being told “but they are really nice people and we should welcome them, give them our social security, give them education, give them health care, allow them to break our housing laws, etc., etc., and give them citizenship because our leaders don’t want to offend the mexican government!!! WE CANNOT AFFORD THEM!!! The illegal entry is only the start of their crimes. They drive on our roads without paying registration fees for the vehicles, they do not have licenses nor insurance, so when they cause an accident, there is no way to recover for the damages they cause. They TAKE medical care and never pay because they have no credit report to damage, nor a way to attach to their pay by a judgement. HOW did they obtain the status us such priviledged people???
Looking at the numbers, it would cost less to ship them all home (including those born here to illegal alien parents) and build an awesome fence across our borders, than to keep them here for a FREE RIDE~
The Federal government must stop trying to buy allies around the world. We all work too hard for a living, to see it just handed away to other countries for nothing!! Lightining our tax burden on our citizens would go a long way in the health care “crisis”. Then maybe we’d have the funds to pay the doctor directly, and do the routine check-ups, rather than waiting until a problem is obvious!
It is time for our country leaders to enforce the laws we have - see which are in line with having explicit constitutional authority, voiding those that don’t and shutting down the IRS - putting those funds into the border security, ending Social Security and giving us back what they have extorted from our pay, so that we can be responsible for our own retirement. (Etc., etc., etc.!!)
MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL -
I have only _one_ problem with Ron Paul, He fails to think *completely* through, many of his stands. Part of his problem is the he still sees the world in 18th century terms (1700’s). Howver, considering that most politicians see it in a self centered utopian version, I have to say that I prefer his. My biggest fear that someone like him, will refuse to see that not all his “solutions” will actually work.
Here, in Indianapolis, we just elected a genuine fluke outsider Republican, due to Democratic arrogance. Greg Ballard was heavily criticized for “not announcing details of all his solutions.” Could it *possibly* have been based on wanting to be _sure_ he knew what the problems really were, before creating “solutions?”
It’s easy to “blue sky” solutions, if you don’t really know/_understand_ what the problems are. They may seem easy to understand/fix, but on closer investigation, prove to be very different that what you originally thought. Saying “I’ll have all the (overseas) troops home in 18 months, sounds good. But, that doesn’t mean that it can actually be done, without disrupting/destroying the economies of multiple countries, *including that of the USA.* Not to mention repudiating treaties on a unilateral basis.
WWII was set in motion, in 1919, by utopian thinking, and backed up by a desire for vengeance against Germany. We all know how well that worked out. Please, let’s *not* recreate that sort of world wide disaster, by rushing to keep thoughtless policies. No matter how little many may like the idea, the world *is* tied together. In spite of what Radical Islam, neo isolationists, and those like them believe, what happens in deepest Africa, does have an effect on me, here in Greenwood, Indiana. Liberty is the only system that keeps growing, all others die eventually. Often rapidly and violently, as in the case of the USSR.
Sometimes, in our own self interest, we must “meddle.” Just as Dr’s, have to assist the body in healing. The trick is to know when, and how much. Not to blindly pretend that we shouldn’t. Ron Paul, as a DR. should know that, and I hope he starts thinking that way. We need someone like him that really thinks through the problems, the solutions, and when to be as genuine Black and White, type problem solver. What we have now, are “thinkers” so lost in shades of grey that they have lost the original boundaries.
