BOOM-BOOM, OUT GO THE LIGHTS: “Among the regulations packed into the newest energy bill that just passed Congress this week, a ban on the incandescent light bulb will officially end what Edison started 130 years ago. ‘If you outlaw light bulbs, then only outlaws will have light bulbs,’ says Libertarian Party Executive Director Shane Cory. Incandescent light bulbs will begin to be phased out in 2012, with a complete ban finalized in 2014. Manufacturers will be forced to switch to compact fluorescent (CFL) bulbs, which can cost more than six times as much as the common incandescent bulb.” - Libertarian Party, 12/20/07
“Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) told Cybercast News Service yesterday that a provision in the new energy law that will effectively ban the use of the incandescent light bulb in the United States by 2020 was an appropriate exercise of federal power.”

THE GOSPEL ACCORDING TO (RON) PAUL
“I want the foreign policy of our Founding Fathers. No entangling relationships. . . . All this death and destruction. We blow up their bridges, we’re taxed for that. Then we’re taxed to rebuild their bridges while our own bridges are falling down.”
- GOP presidential candidate Ron Paul
THE NEW SILENT MAJORITY?
“I believe there is more support (for GOP presidential candidate Ron Paul) than public opinion polls are picking up. I believe that he is appealing to anti-establishment Republicans and independents, and there are a lot of them.”
- Fergus Cullen, the New Hampshire Republican party chairman
ASTOUNDING SUCCESS
“It wasn’t long ago that Rep. Ron Paul was an anti-war asterisk in the race for the Republican presidential nomination. Then his campaign raised a record $6 million in a single day. Now the libertarian-leaning Texas congressman is looking like a possible spoiler, with an eclectic, tech-savvy following and an astounding $18 million in donations raised in less than three months.”
- Associated Press, 12/21/07
NO BETTER LIBERTARIAN
“We’ll soon find out if Mr. Paul can translate his fundraising success into people pulling a lever in a voting booth. There’s never been a libertarian who was better funded or in a better position to put his ideas out there. . . . When asked, Mr. Paul downplays any chance of a third-party run in the general election. But he needs a legal and honorable way to spend these millions, so he may find his fans have all but taken the decision out of his hands.”
- Brendan Miniter, Political Diary, 12/21/07
DEPENDS ON YOUR DEFINITION OF ‘GENIUS’
“The reason (Hillary Clinton) ought to be president, over and above her vision and her plans is that she has proven in every position she has ever had in life, whether it was in elected office or not, that she is a world-class genius in making positive changes in other people’s lives.”
- Bill Clinton stumping for his wife in New Hampshire
AMERICA’S NIGHTMARE
“Hillary Clinton doesn’t have the luxury Al Gore did of choosing to dump Bill Clinton on the presidential campaign trail. She’s stuck with him, for better or for worse. And if she becomes president, so is America.”
- Columnist David Limbaugh
RUDY’S CREDIBILITY GAP
“Voters may agree with what Giuliani has to say, but they just don’t know if they can trust what he’s saying.”
- Columnist Amy Walter
STICK A FORK IN HIM
“The front-runner since spring, Rudy Giuliani, is close to toast.”
- Columnist Patrick Buchanan
DEFENDING SPEECH CONTROLS
“Fred Thompson on Wednesday defended his support for limits on campaign contributions — a sore point among many fellow Republicans… At an eastern Iowa campaign event, a man in the audience said he liked the former Tennessee senator’s conservative thinking on most issues but questioned his support for the McCain-Feingold Act. The campaign finance overhaul, which became law in 2002, caps contributions and is disliked by many in the GOP.”
- Associated Press, 12/20/07
ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS NOT GOOD FOR NATION
“It is not good, in my opinion, for our country to start becoming dependent on a constant flow of illegal immigrants that are usually less educated and come here only because they’ll work cheaper than somebody else will.”
- GOP candidate Fred Thompson
ONE MAN WHO MADE A DIFFERENCE
“Although his (GOP presidential) campaign never gained momentum, (Rep. Tom) Tancredo can take heart in knowing that he nearly single-handedly changed the face of American political debate. Through his efforts, Tancredo took issues such as border security and illegal immigration and brought them out of the cellar and into mainstream political discourse.”

The only “Good” news here regards the dim-bulbs and their dim bulbs is that technology is already on the verge of rendering these mercury contaminated bulbs obsolete.
Researchers have announced they are close to a practical LED surface coating.
When this hits the market, “Light-Bulbs” as we know them will become obsolete, except for specialized applications.
Unless the Gov. Org. legislates otherwise, perhaps in order to repay their corporate masters?
