Hopeful Sign

Just when you thought there was no hope for the archaic notion our Founders embraced that the federal government should be strictly limited, along comes a Reno Gazette-Journal online poll providing a small light at the end of this rather dark tunnel. The question was, “Should Congress renew the No Child Left Behind Act?” The good news is that 84 percent of respondents answered “No.”

Thirty-three percent said no because “it forces teachers to teach to the test.” These are generally folks who find the program ineffective, if not counter-productive, in providing an improved education.

Another 23 percent said no because “it’s an unfunded mandate.” These are generally members of the teachers union following the talking points on this issue handed down by their union bosses, and liberal Bush-bashers who will object to anything and everything tied to the Republican president no matter what.

But a pleasantly surprising 28 percent said no because “education is a local, not federal, responsibility.” I suspect these are generally home-schoolers and folks who read my newsletters and blogs. In other words, among the best-informed, most intelligent and highly principled citizens in America.

Let’s hope they have lots of babies!

  1. This should cause all people who are considering voting for the RINO the republicarts will nominate think again. The lesser evil is still evil. Remember Adolph was the lesser of three evils, Joe and Mao killed more people. Romney is Hitlery lite (remeber his health plan for Taxachussets). McCain repealed most of the First Amendment. Guiliani thinks sancturay cities are fine. All are aginst the Second Amendment.
