In a conference call with reporters on Monday, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said with a straight face, “I myself am personally not a supporter of earmarks.” Responded pork-buster Rep. Jeff Flake, “Whew, good thing! Makes me sick.
All I heard in the debates last night was about raising taxes…
NOT
cutting spending.
[…] This post is a ConservaBlogs.com original @ Muth’s Truths […]
Most of those sound like projects deserving of support. However, shouldn’t those funds come from local accounts? They should all be supported by the local San Francisco economy, not tacked onto an already bloated national bill.
The bottom line is, if the people in the community really want those programs, they should be inclined to pay for them. If they don’t want to pay for them, then they can’t have the programs. It’s as simple as that.
Get the governement’s hands out of our pockets, and a lot of these programs would be supported by donations from the community. As it is now, there is not enough public support because they know “Uncle Sam will bail it out”. Why would anybody freely contribute money to a cause when they know that they’ll be paying to it anyway through robbery - umm… - I mean taxes?
Wow! All that money coming into San Francisco. Where I live. Not ONE penny has crossed my palm. Where did it all go? I wonder if I can at least get my share back? (yeah, sure)
I’m honestly surprised that there wasn’t something in there for the whack cases of Code Pink.
How about a total and then add to it as she submits more pork? I say shut off the pork entirely. Both parties are guilty. When will some folks that are looking to get elected make it one of their platforms. What a novel idea!
To answer Mr Stoddart: Office seekers will make abandonment of pork part of their platforms when they pick up on the fact that their constituents are voting the porkers OUT!
Until the average voter is informed about the amount of earmarks each and every taxspender supports, they will not be aware of their transgressions and so, will not be able to respond by voting them out. News programs would do their viewers a big favor by publishing this info. Taxpayers need it to make informed decisions (due diligence and all)!
Why does the general public put up with this behavior from their congressmen? The reason is a combination of greed and apathy. Greed, in the desire for something for nothing (handouts from the federal government) and apathy about where all the federal money comes from! The presidential election only proves that we (the public) only want to be babied, not treated as adults, capable of utilizing our energies and intellect to provide for our selves. I am thoroughly disgusted with the candidates (except Paul) who are vieing for our vote.
You can whine about pork, or earmarks, all you want; but nothing will happen until conservatives move into elected offices. So, stop whining and start running for pubic office and get to Washington yourselves.
Until we the voters make a LOUD and distinct statement, we will continually be ignored. Letters, calls and e-mails to the spenders of our hard-earned dollars and following through on voting them out in each cycle should get the desired results!
Being a Floridian, I am so fed-up with hearing that McCain had a “landslide” win here… he took 36% of the vote - so what - that only means that 64% of the ones that bothered to show up wanted someone else besides HIM!!!!
We are all so busy trying to earn enough to keep our nostrils above the water, that it makes it very difficult to keep tabs on our reps… each of us need to make it a point to follow our reps for the next 6 months and make sure that they know you are watching them and telling your co-workers just how they are spending YOUR money! You may be surprised how many people on all sides of the isle are fed up with BOTH parties!
I work a great deal with seniors, and they are enraged to see the illegals lined up at the social security office here in our City, to collect benefits. They know that is coming out of the money they paid in for too many years, and increases the costs to them for everything! So next time you are talking with your co-workers on pay day - look at the box of withholding for social security and know that is part you your share to support illegal immigration - it’s what they are coming here for!!!

The Conservatives (Republicans) did not do much better when they had control of the House, Senate, and White House. Maybe the Libertarians mean what they say, and will do what they say. I have pretty much given up on the Republicans.
George Bush, President, stuffed five hundred and thirty earmarks worth $15,600,000,000.00 into legislative bills in 2007.
Bush the leader; what do you expect the followers to do?
Well Bush did $15Trillion in one year for the whole friggin country
Herself earmarked $53.99Billion for one city in four months of fiscal 08
Looks like she may give The Prez a real run for his money if she puts in just a little effort
That’s 58 million, not 58 billion. And yes, if the people of San Francisco want these programs, then let them fund them locally.
