Loud-Mouthed Blowhards

It’s bad enough the labor union movement has not only ruined education in this country, but lowered the high regard Americans once had for the noble teaching profession. Now it hopes to similarly destroy the regard many of us have for nursing professionals while simultaneously harming the best health care system in the world.

Yes, it may be expensive. But you don’t see scores of folks rushing off to Mexico and Canada for their gall bladder surgeries.

The effort to permanently destroy the reputation of the nursing profession came to Reno yesterday where a gaggle of 150 union agitators from the SEIU staged a protest against Renown Regional Medical Center. Armed with the requisite bullhorns, whistles and picket signs, the army of malcontents marched through the streets of Reno chanting the same, familiar, brain-dead slogans we hear at pretty much every circus show of labor unrest.

“Hey, hey, ho, ho, understaffing has go to go.” My, how original. And, of course there was the classic, “What do we want? Quality health care. When do we want it? Now.”

What a crock.

Yesterday’s protest has nothing to do with quality health care. It had everything to do with the union flexing its muscles trying to dictate management practices and control working conditions by misleading the public into thinking the hospital is short-changing patient care for the sake of profits. “We will no longer stand to let a hospital like Renown let patients fall through the cracks,” said one of the belligerents.

If these disgruntled nurses and union agitators think they can run a hospital better than Renown, they are free to open up a competing facility and put their OWN money where their big mouths are. Otherwise, they ought to shut their traps and quit trying to scare patients with their dishonest campaign. Hey, hey, ho, ho - union nurses ought to go.
