The Case of the Deadbeat Legislator

When you’re bad to the bone, you’re bad to the bone. So it won’t surprise readers of Nevada News & Views that Assemblywoman Francis Allen (R-Las Vegas) doesn’t just stick it to the voters of her district; she’s even sticking it to the florist for her wedding.

According to Las Vegas Review-Journal columnist John L. Smith today, Allen “ordered nearly $8,000 worth of flowers” from Carabisio’s Flowers & Gifts. “After making a $2,500 deposit, on March 29 Allen wrote a check for the balance of $5,377.40,” writes Smith. “Then she stopped payment on the check.”

On April 3rd, Allen stiffed the florist by writing them a check for $417.40 instead of for the full balance.

Eight large for flowers? Probably sounds like a lot of money to the average voter in Allen’s district. But our young “Trust-fund Assemblywoman” is a gal for whom nothing but the best will do. And apparently this florist is one of the best and this amount isn’t out of line for the type of shindig Allen insisted upon for her nuptials. “In fact,” notes Smith, “the shop often caters to celebrities and VIPs and recently completed arrangements for the Prince of Dubai.”

We’d like to think the blushing bride would be red-faced with embarrassment over ripping off a local small business for five g’s, but somehow we doubt it. It’s like we’ve been saying for over two years now, you just can’t trust Francis Allen.

And by the way, I have reason to believe the Case of the Deadbeat Legislator isn’t going to end here with just the florist. Stay tuned, Batfans.

  1. WHY?!?!?!?!, are you not coming to Vegas to run against her? I know she was a staffer for Gibbons, and the last Chair of the R Party was, er, excused from work, on account, maybe, of endorsing Allen’s last R opponent. Buckley is too big a Target, but Allen, she is a small “t” target.
