Boy, can Nevada GOP Chairwoman Sue Lowden throw a party. Last night’s Boots and Rhinestones Ball at the Peppermill Casino in Reno was, by every measure, a smashing success. A star-studded who’s-who of Republican leaders, elected officials and grassroots activists turned out to kick off what is expected to be the largest GOP state convention in history today.
The ball was followed up by an ice cream social hosted by former GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney, who will be speaking on behalf of GOP presidential nominee John McCain today. Also on the speaking roster is former GOP presidential candidate, Ron Paul.
Later today the party will elect a new Republican National Committeewoman to replace outgoing committeewoman Beverly Willard. Heidi Smith is seeking the office, but the obstreperous Washoe County chairman’s candidacy has been greeted with considerable opposition from Republicans in Nevada as well as national party folks back in DC.
An effort to draft Dawn Gibbons for the position fizzled when the First Lady declined to enter the race, but about an hour ago word came down that Mendy Elliot, the governor’s Director of the Department of Business and Industry, intends to throw her hat in the ring.
National Committeeman Joe Brown is seeking re-election with no apparent or announced opposition.
Meanwhile, Anjeanette Damon of Inside Nevada Politics reported yesterday that the Republican National Committee has named its Victory 2008 finance chairs in Nevada. They are: Chairman: Bill Weidner. Co-Chair: Sig Rogich. Honorary co-chairs: Terry Lanni, Sheldon Adelson, Steve Wynn.

What opposition? My understanding is that she got 100% of the vote?
Chuck, come on… you’re usually known for being factual. What do you mean FORMER GOP Presidential candidate Ron Paul?
May I state the same about your subsequent postings on the convention. Guests were allowed and many of us would have liked to have seen you in attendance particularly as a main organizer of the CLC. There were numerous Non-McSame supporters there who were simply seeking to be represented. Most were not Ron Paul folks either, whom I generally found to be nice people w/ only a few misbehaving.
Really, have you gone that far off the horizon not to monitor what’s really going on? It’s a good thing the whole event was taped by the Washoe county public access folks. I’m sure we’ll see their condensed versions on Youtube for all to see in the near future.
But back to the ball… apparently you didn’t notice that most of the gifts donated for auction went for 1/4 to 1/3rd of their value. Let’s look at the coffers of DNC and RNC. Mass disenfranchisement abounds.
