As it turns out, no one challenged Washoe County GOP chieftess Heidi Smith for the position of Nevada Republican National Committeewoman. And as her first act after being elected on Saturday, Smith promptly threw John McCain under the bus.
In an interview with Reno Gazette-Journal reporter Anjeanette Damon concerning this weekend’s Nevada state GOP convention, Smith slammed the party’s presidential nominee’s organization, demanding, “Where was the McCain campaign? And where were their signs? If Ron Paul’s people walked in with signs, why couldn’t the McCain people walk in with signs?”
And some people wonder why some other people were desperately trying to find someone other than the acerbic Heidi Smith for Republican National Committeewoman?
The silver lining here might be that the Nevada Republican Party convention isn’t over; it’s only recessed. And a convention can pretty much do whatever the heck it wants to do. So if someone wants to reopen the race for national committeewoman when the convention re-convenes, and enough delegates vote to do so, I believe it might still be possible for the party to elect someone else to that position.
Does anyone have a copy of Robert’s Rules handy? And where’s that phone number for Dema Guinn?

I happen to think the world of Heidi Smith and think that she will be wonderful as National Committeewoman!
