The Unhinged Fringe

Some Nevada Republican delegates to last weekend’s convention are firing back at the minority of unhinged fringe elements of the Ron Paul campaign - what are now being derisively referred to as the “Paultards” - in emails, blogs and letters-to-the-editor. Here are some examples…

“In our county we have had nightmarish problems with these Ron Paul people; and no matter how much we bend over to help them, they insist that we are out to get them. We have had several complaints from people who claim to have been told by the Ron Paul supporters that they might as well not attend any conventions, as they will not be allowed to participate in the process, since they do not support, nor would they cast a convention ballot, for Ron Paul.”

“I, at one time, was a libertarian. I left for various reasons, not the least of which was their penchant for looking crazy. So, I know how they think. I will guarantee you that you cannot cut ‘deals’ with them. They will not compromise. Libertarians believe that if you compromise you have lost, because then you have ‘negotiated’ part of your principals away. That’s why they ‘agreed’ to some changes and then reneged on their deal when the rule changes hit the floor. They will do it this way, with lying about negotiating, because they also believe that the ‘end justifies the means’.”

“I was a delegate at the Nevada GOP convention. When I arrived, everyone in my delegation had these yellow sheets of proposed delegates. When I asked to see one, they said I couldn’t unless I was a Ron Paul supporter. They were crossing out names and writing other names.

“Later in the day, I was handed a white copy, by a Paul supporter, which turned out to be the bogus delegate list. At one point, when coming off the elevators, I took a wrong turn and ran into a room filled with Paul people, copy machine and computers where information was being run off. I give them credit for great organization. Of course, the Nazi’s were well-organized too.”

“I saw Paul folks holding up dollar bills, as if to volunteer to pay to keep the convention room open. That is the first time any of them have helped the party financially, by the way.”

  1. That last comment is the type of comment that keeps the nastiest going on both sides. Has that person seen my checkbook? My time volunteered to the Young Republicans? Screw them.

Just because I don’t support John McCain financially doesn’t mean I don’t support the party.

Perhaps if the party would put forth more Constitution loving candidates their coffers would be a little more abundant…

  2. And as for principles, what’s the point of a party platform if you’re not going to fight for it? What’s the point of a platform that is negotiated away til it looks like a Democrat’s bidding?

Do the Democrats negotiate or compromise? Ha! Only when they’re in the minority and have no other way.

  3. The person wasn’t talking about you, Martina. Settle down. The person was talking about the great number of first-time delegates at the Nevada convention last weekend.

  4. I know the person wasn’t talking about me personally, but I guess he knew every one of those 600 people by name and donation status? Otherwise it’s bias and stereotype.

For every establishment GOP member that looks upon Ron Paul supporters as the enemy they’ll get one.

And then they wonder why they’re angry or bitter.

Frankly I would think a party in such disarray as the Republican party is, would want as many new faces as possible - hoping to GET volunteers and donations in the future. But instead, this type of bias is evident across the country.

One wonders if Lyn Nofziger would even be allowed in the tent these days.

I will admit there are crazies in the Ron Paul tent. I will admit there are unhinged lunatics even. I’m disgraced and disappointed by them. But I’m also a Ron Paul supporter, so yes when I see people lump everyone into the same category under “Ron Paul supporters” I take offense. To me, it’s no better than racism or sexism or any other bias. Because I tend to favor the Constitution over deficit spending or a never ending war started by my party, somehow now I’m an angry enemy.

No. I just want the country to stand up for what we were founded upon. And you’re damn right sometimes I get ANGRY about what we’ve become.

  5. Now that the films are ready, you’ll be happy Chuck, everyone will, lawyers, you, me because now you can have all your questions answered precisely! That’s correct full coverage, no breaks all day all events inimately revealed. Not on handcam, not on cell phone but from a full size camera on a tripod recording every minute.

So, if you have any questions going forward, check out the film!

By the way, nice job on your Nevada Appeal article. That’s all you got?

  6. I have no idea what “film” you’re talking about. I’m still waiting on you to settle on your answers to the basic questions: Did you make a deal with anyone on delegate selection; if so what was it; and with whom did you make the deal? If whatever “film” you have answers those questions definitely, vunderbar. ‘Cause you sure haven’t.
