Survey Morons

The latest GOP fundraising pitch disguised as a “survey” arrived in my mailbox this week. This one came from the folks running the National Republican Senatorial Committee. I won’t mention any names to protect the guilty, since they’re primarily fellow Nevadans.

The four-page letter signed by the NRSC Chairman (but surely not written by him) advises me, “Make no mistake: Your participation in this Survey is vital to our Party’s and America’s future. . . . Please tell me where you stand!”

Yes, it’s that important. My answers to this important survey will purportedly help the GOP chart its electoral course for the remainder of the year. And: “Remember, we are only two seats away from REGAINING THE MAJORITY.”

As if Senate Republicans this year have a snowball’s chance in Pahrump in July of regaining the majority this year. About the best they can hope for is not LOSING enough seats to give Harry Reid and the Democrats (along with some wishy-washy liberal Republicans) a large enough majority to break any GOP filibusters. But I digress.

The point of this item is to point out just how stupid national Republican leaders think grassroots Republican activists and small-dollar donors are. This supposed “official SURVEY DOCUMENT - REGISTERED in your name only” is “important” (their emphasis) to he NRSC’s objective to “reconnect with its grassroots base and refocus our policy agenda.”

Yes, this survey is SO important in efforts to reconnect with the GOP grassroots base that the NRSC decided to prove it by insulting the intelligence of grassroots Republicans and Republican donors with imbecilic, idiotic, banal, ridiculous questions such as these:

#4: Do you agree with liberal Democrats who want to repeal and reverse President Bush’s tax cuts?

Um…duh.

#7: Do you think the federal tax code should be simpler and fairer?

Um…duh.

#8: Can the U.S. economy function without the low-wage labor provided by illegal aliens?

Um…duh.

#10: Do you support (Hillary Clinton’s) efforts to give government control of your healthcare costs and choices?

Um…duh.

#16: Do you believe that securing our borders and ports should be a major priority for President Bush and Republicans?

Um…duh.

#32: Have Democrats won a national mandate to raise taxes and dictate foreign policy to President Bush for the remainder of his term?

Um…duh.

And on and on and on…

I don’t know what’s worse: National Republicans who send out these moronic surveys with such insultingly stupid questions…or Republican grassroots activists and small-dollar donors who actually think the NRSC cares even a smidgen what grassroots activists and small-dollar donors think. Frankly, if they’ had listened to Republican grassroots activists and small-dollar donors in the past on issues such as spending and illegal immigration they wouldn’t have lost their majority in the last election in the first place.

There is one interesting question in the survey, however.

#26: Do you believe public schools, K-12, should be funded by the federal government?

Of course not. Too bad they didn’t ask this question some eight years ago before Republicans voted for the president’s No Child Left Behind scheme which provides federal funds for local K-12 education. Again, another reason the national GOP folks have lost the support of so many grassroots Republicans. Deservedly so.

So once again I’ll be checking off the box on the “Support Reply Form” which reads: “No. I do not wish to participate in this Survey, nor do I wish to make a donation to help the Republican Party.”

Physician, heal thyself.
