REPUBLICANS, YE BE WARNED: U.S. News & World Report says “Mike Huckabee, the former governor of Arkansas and defeated contender for the GOP presidential nomination, is currently at the top of John McCain’s short list for a running mate. At least that’s the word from a top McCain fundraiser and longtime Republican moneyman who has spoken to McCain’s inner circle.”

Be it known - and don’t even try brow-beating me about how bad an Obama administration would be - that if McCain picks Huckabee and Bob Barr wins the LP nomination this weekend, there is a VERY good chance I’ll cast my vote for Barr in November. McCain-Sanford and I’m a happy camper. McCain-Huckabee and it’s sayonara, baby.

LET’S MAKE A DEAL

“I keep waiting for the Islamists to apologize for killing, beating, and jailing Christians, Jews, Bahais, and other religious minorities.  If they stop killing our people, we’ll stop mistreating their books.  Egads.”

HO, HO, HO

“Some people who think it is wrong to tell children to believe in Santa Claus nevertheless think it is all right to tell adults to believe that the government can give the whole population things that we cannot afford ourselves. Believing in Santa Claus is apparently bad for children but OK for adults.”

REID SMEAR CAMPAIGN PAYS OFF

“Democrats successfully torpedoed Hans von Spakovsky’s nomination to the Federal Election Commission last week, after the nominee withdrew his name from consideration. . . . Mr. von Spakovsky pulled out when it became clear not a single Democrat would cross the line to vote for his nomination. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid led the smear campaign against the former Justice Department lawyer, suggesting that Mr. von Spakovsky’s previous support for voter ID laws carried with it the whiff of racism. The Supreme Court exonerated Mr. von Spakovsky when it upheld Indiana’s voter ID law. But groups like the NAACP and ACLU, furious over that loss, only redoubled efforts to tank the Bush nominee, and Senate Democrats were happy to help.”

ANOTHER ONE BITES THE DUST

“Rep. Vito J. Fossella (R-N.Y.) will not seek reelection in November after admitting to an extramarital affair with a former Air Force official, which came after a drunken-driving arrest in Alexandria three weeks ago, Republican Party sources said. Fossella is not resigning immediately, saving House Republicans from having to defend another seat in what would have been an expensive special election had he left Congress altogether. The party has lost three seats through such elections since March.”

- Washington Post, 5/20/08

BIG TROUBLE

“Three. Count ’em. Three special elections where congressional Democrats have defeated Republicans in seats previously held by Republicans, the latest in Mississippi. . . . Republicans are in big trouble. Because no one much believes they even want to fix Washington, much less that they could accomplish the task. . . . Years of pork-barrel pig-outs have taken a toll on the public. After losing the majority in ’06, congressional Republicans are poised to lose a lot more seats in ’08.”

- Paul Jacob of the Sam Adams Alliance

ARMAGEDDON OUTTA HERE

“As matters stand, the Republican Party is facing an historic shellacking in November.”

- Columnist William Rusher

DUMPSTER DIVING DEMOCRATS

“The Republican Party is in distress. Doomsayers are everywhere. Republican National Committee Chairman Robert M. Duncan complains that conservative, pro-life, pro-gun Democrats won three special elections by stealing GOP issues. . . . . Democrats didn’t steal your issues, sir. You abandoned them. Your party discarded them. Democrats simply engaged in dumpster harvesting.”

- Columnist Cal Thomas

THERE THEY GO AGAIN

“(T)he Senate is at it again. After multiple defeats, thanks to large numbers of concerned activists, members of the Senate are trying to pass amnesty (for illegal aliens) once again. This time, the Senate is hiding the amnesty legislation inside the Iraq War Supplemental Appropriations Bill. That’s right…the legislation focused on paying for our troops who are in harms way is also the means by which senators are trying to give illegal aliens a free pass. This is wrong, and we should once again let Congress know how we feel.”

YER GUMMINT SKOOLS INACTION

“Georgia school leaders were so shocked by dismal scores on state math and social studies tests, the state superintendent released a statement Monday to prepare parents and others for the results. According to the unofficial results, only 20 to 30 percent of Georgia’s sixth- and seventh-graders passed the state social studies exam. In math, about 40 percent of eighth-graders could be held back because they failed the test.”

THE UNION LABEL

Amazingly, the International Union of Security, Police and Fire Professionals doesn¹t see a problem with allowing a man accused of stalking his girlfriend and has compared employers to terrorists to act as an official organizer in Nevada at the MGM Mirage. It does not speak well of the union to work with such a nut as Steve Maritas, but they are doing so nonetheless. Get the lowdown HERE

One Response to “News & Views - May 20, 2008”

  1. Sanford or bust as the saying goes. I am with you. Sanford or 3rd party and I do not like the very concept of 3rd parties. Yes, I can hold my nose and vote 3rd party. But to vote for two Democrats like McCain and Huck? No way, no how. At least President Obama will be a one termer we can organize, galvanize against and actively resist.

It is looking more and more like 2010 will be the good year.
