WWGPD: Columnist Diana West wonders what Gen. George Patton would do if during World War II one of his soldiers had been caught using a copy of Hitler’s “Mein Kampf” for target practice. Certainly not what Maj. Gen. Jeffrey Hammond did in Iraq last week under similar circumstances. Read all about it HERE

DISSING CONSERVATIVES

“Republican leaders have treated conservatives with utter disrespect and, in turn, conservatives have lost all respect for Republican leaders.  Millions of grassroots conservative activists and donors have left the Republican Party and taken with them their volunteer time, their checkbooks, and their votes. . . . Today, the Libertarian Party has a historic opportunity to provide leadership for America.”

- Conservative icon Richard Viguerie in his keynote address at the Libertarian Party convention in Denver Friday night

GROVER TOUTS LA GUV FOR #2

“Anti-tax crusader Grover Norquist believes Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal would be the strongest running mate for John McCain this fall. ‘[Jindal] is the best choice,’ Norquist wrote in an e-mail from Baton Rouge.

“A Bayou source told Politico that the Americans for Tax Reform president was in the Louisiana capitol talking up Jindal yesterday. The 36-year-old governor is a true movement conservative and McCain needs him on the ticket, Norquist told one official in the House chamber.”

NO LOVE FOR HILLARY

“Let’s not mistake racial fear of Obama for personal popularity for Hillary. Most of the blue-collar working class whites who backed Hillary Clinton, particularly the men, can’t stand her.”

WRIGHT ASSUMPTION WRONG

“As Barack Obama makes his slow but steady way toward the Democratic nomination, the assumption in the admiring precincts of the press corps is that voters have dismissed as irrelevant his longtime association with the Rev. Jeremiah Wright. But that may prove as mistaken as the assumption, back in 1988, that voters would not be impressed by Michael Dukakis’s 11-year support of a law granting weekend furloughs to convicts sentenced to life without parole, an issue brought up in the primaries by Al Gore but largely ignored in press coverage at the time.”

CHILD ABDUCTORS LOSE BIG IN TEXAS

“I’m not sure that I have ever been so relieved to see a headline. ‘Court Rules Removal of Children From FLDS Compound was Illegal.’ Halleluiah. A court finally got one right. The mass abduction of hundreds of children who lived at the ‘Yearning for Zion’ ranch in Eldorado, Texas was just the beginning of predictably disgraceful behavior by the state’s Child Protective Services agency. CPS is an agency that frequently runs amok in many states, an out-of-control organization that regularly tramples on the rights of adults accused of abusing children. The horror stories of parents humiliated by the storm trooper tactics of this bunch of state bureaucrats are lengthy.”

  1. I do not know General Hammond, but he is typical of what our military has become. Careerists, who will do anything to advance their career, are well in the majority over warriors. It is doubtful that Patton would rise above Captain in today’s military. There is no moral courage or courage of conviction anymore. General Hammond did the politically correct thing just as he was told to do. It is typical of today’s military leadership. I am ashamed, as a veteran, that our military has fallen so far. I can assure you that there are warriors left…….just look at the list of medal-of-honor winners. General Hammond should be polishing these true heroes boots. Instead, he is probably campaigning for a position as running mate for Hillary. This is very embarassing and indicative of how far we have fallen as a “world leader”. How can any country respect the United States when these actions occur. Also, how can our troops respect their leadership under these conditions. Fighting a war is hard, dangerous work. You absolutely have to believe that your Commanders will back you up if you do what they tell you to do. Granted, the order was not given to destroy a Koran, but certainly, the enemy was reviled among the troops, especially in view of fallen comrades. General Hammond spit on the graves of all these fallen heroes and flipped the finger at the medal-of-honor winners. Our soldiers deserve better and we better get busy giving it to them. Can you imagine Hillary as a Commander-in-Chief? It would conflict an entire generation of warriors. We just need to think of this as we make some pretty tough political decisiona.
