Some members of Nevada’s gaming community struck a last-minute deal with the state’s teachers union yesterday whereby the union agreed not to turn in the signatures it says it had collected to put a tax hike on the gaming industry on the ballot this November. Instead, said gamers have agreed to a scheme whereby […]

Surely the decision was almost entirely political and not for reasons of good morality in a decent society, but give credit to Ohio Democrats for officially disowning Attorney General Marc Dann.
Dann recently admitted to having an affair with one of his staffers, resulting in what has been described as a hostile work environment […]

FROM THE PARTY OF FAMILY VALUES: “Vito Fossella, R-N.Y., has admitted fathering a 3-year-old daughter with a woman outside his marriage, WABC reported today. He disclosed the existence of the child and a ‘relationship’ with the girl’s mother today, amid fallout from his arrest for driving under the influence last week in suburban Washington.” - […]

I can’t remember which movie it was from, but I recall John Wayne once saying something along the lines of, “Never apologize, son. It’s a sign of weakness.” With that in mind, catch this from today’s Associated Press:
“An American sniper was removed from Iraq after he used a copy of the Quran for […]

When I wrote last week that Nevada Gov. Jim Gibbons appeared to be going wobbly on his Tax Pledge again, I caught grief from some Gibbonsites who assured me that was not the case. The problem is, the assurances from those Gibbonsites don’t square with what other Gibbonsites are saying.
For the record once again, […]

There is a big difference between “unable” and “unwilling.”
For example, I often get email rants from melonheads wanting to argue with me over this issue or that, demanding that I answer their questions or justify my position in detail. Quite often I just tell ‘em to take a flying leap. To which the […]

Club for Growth - perhaps the most consistent, effective and aggressive organization of fiscal conservatives in the nation today - posted its ratings and rankings for members of Congress last week. So how did Nevada’s delegation stack up?
Not surprisingly, Democrat Rep. Shelley Berkley ranked at the bottom of the list with a lousy 6% […]

Filing closed yesterday. And here are two things which struck me…
1.) If they don’t blow it, Republicans in the state assembly have an excellent shot at picking up four net seats in November. If so, that will put them within four seats of taking the majority in 2010 when ten Democrats will […]

The Associated Press is reporting that “About 78,400 Nevadans were out of work in April” as the state’s economy continues to falter. But the Gibbons’ administration proudly boasts that none of those 78,400 out-of-work Nevadans were government employees laid off during this current budget “crisis.”
Not one government employee has thus far been deemed “non-essential” […]

As written here previously, I’ve criticized Gov. Jim Gibbons’ version of the “Grace Commission” - the so-called SAGE Commission - for apparently only looking at ways to make government more efficient rather than looking for ways to chop it down to size. And every time I say we should “cut” government I hear voices […]
