No matter how you slice it, the Democrats really blew it yesterday by trying to split the baby over the brouhaha of what to do with Michigan’s and Florida’s delegates to their national convention. No matter how gray some would have you believe this was, it truly was black-and-white.
The rule that was approved by the Democrat Party - AND EVERY CANDIDATE KNEW IN ADVANCE - was that any state, other than the four which were pre-approved, which opted to hold its presidential primary/caucus before Super Tuesday would lose all of their delegates to the national convention. That was the rule. That was the penalty for breaking the rule. And everyone knew it.
Nevertheless, Michigan broke the rule. Under pressure from party leaders, most of the major Democrat presidential candidates opted not to compete there, including Barrack Obama. Hillary Clinton - who, like her husband, has never believed rules apply to her; rules are for other people - decided to put her name on the Michigan ballot anyway. And absent any competition, she won - although a significant 40 percent of participants voted for “uncommitted” instead.
In Florida, a similar situation existed. Florida, too, decided to break the rules and hold its primary prior to Super Tuesday. Again, although other candidates had their names on the ballot, only Hillary Clinton opted to actively campaign there - and “won.”
National Democrats yesterday met and decided the only “fair” thing to do was reward Michigan and Florida by seating half of their delegates despite the rule that none of their delegates would be seated. In other words, changing the rules after the fact. Every kid on a playground knows that’s not right. But the Democrats did it anyway. How typical.
The most ironic thing about this is that Hillary, who benefited the most by supporting those who broke the rules, is the most unhappy about the decision yesterday and will likely now continue dragging out the Democrat nomination process all the to the convention in Denver later this year - the same result the D’s would have gotten had they simply stuck by the rules of the game in the first place. Serves them right.
And in case you don’t think Hillary and her supporters are going to make a big stink all the way up to and through the convention, get a load of THIS angry, white female Clinton supporter who went meshuganah in front of TV cameras after yesterday’s Rules Committee decision. This little two-minute rant has got to be music to Republican ears. I think this woman’s picture ought to appear in the dictionary next to the phrase, “Loud-Mouthed Broad” - but that’s probably sexist, so pretend I didn’t say it.

This is a perfect example of hypocricy. Ickles was on Meet the Press this morning and stuck to his mantra of “we cannot allow people to not have a voice” even when confronted with the blatant denial by Hillary that “the Michigan vote will not count”. It is sad that people fall for this BS. I know, all of them do it and it is “part of the game”. Well, while we are playing the game, the rest of the world is beating us economically and it will not be long before they take over militarily. An atomic bomb is just a matter of money and the Arabs are socking away plenty of it……in Euros now to boot.
The Democrats are toast and the “Republicans” are the new Democrats with a conservative story. There is simply no hope for either major party and everyone thinks one of them shoul d win. This is very hard to reconcile among a thinking electorate…..if there are any left.
Steve,
You could not be further from the truth! “The Democrats are toast”?! No, the Republicans are toast, ask Ensign. It won’t be till the 2010 elections that a few more people will fiqure out how both of the major parties have been screwing us, by then, it will too late….it’s over for Team USA.
