Quite a few people wrote thanking me for publishing the fact that First Lady Dawn Gibbons’ lawyer is a big-time Democrat who has given money generously to Democrat candidates in the past. It’s a perspective on the First Couple’s unfortunate divorce proceedings which they didn’t know. And it may well explain why this matter is being dragged out so publicly despite, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal this morning, multiple and rather generous settlement offers being proposed by the Governor’s lawyer to the First Lady’s lawyer.
Hey, just doing my job.
Except…
That’s NOT my job. I don’t work for the Governor.
But Chief Operating Officer Dianne Cornwall and Chief of Staff Mike Dayton do. They get paid quite well for those jobs, too. And yet neither of them took the time or initiative to do the most elementary of “opposition research” on the lawyer with a political dagger placed firmly above their boss’s heart. I mean, hasn’t either ever heard of Google? That’s how I found Cal Dunlap’s campaign contributions to big-time Democrats. It really wasn’t difficult and didn’t take much time at all.
I can’t say it often enough: God bless Al Gore for inventing the Internet.
Seriously though. As all hell breaks out and the walls are tumbling down around him, where is the Governor’s senior staff? Why aren’t they watching his back? Do they even give a damn about the man they work for…or are they only worried about keeping their taxpayer-funded phony-baloney state jobs?
“Well, Chuck,” you might say, “what do you think they should be doing to help the boss in this situation?”
Good question. And if Cornwall and Dayton don’t know the answer to that question then both are even more useless to the Governor than I imagined. I’m assuming they just don’t care enough, not that they don’t know how.
Either way, if the Governor is to have any hope whatsoever of pulling his fat from this fire, it’s time for a major league shake-up at the senior staff level. Even if Cornwall and Dayton are truly dedicated to Gibbons, the incompetence shown by the pair in running the administration since Day One - literally - is inexcusable. But especially now. Especially with so much on the line for Republicans up and down the ballot, starting with presidential nominee John McCain and moving down to Rep. Jon Porter and state Sen. Bob Beers.
As Newt Gingrich is wont to say these days, real change requires real change. And that change for the Gibbons administration needs to start at the senior staff level.
Off with their heads!

It is ironic that a great deal of Gibbons money will go to Dawn’s attorney so that he can forward it to the Democrats. Oh, well, Jim has no choice. Men are just castrated in divorce proceeding, all in the name of attorneys sucking up big fees. Dawn has nothing to lose here. The fact that she is in bed with the enemy is significant, and telling as to her sincereity. What a mess. It will be embarassing, long, public, and nasty. Too bad it is competing with the other disgusting show going on in the chase for President. It must be hard for news editors to pick the top stories these days. What a country!!!!!
Let us keep in mind his wife is a Republican and it is an R on R battle (she picked an advocate who is a D exactly because she wants his head on a plate!).
Steve, Gibbons had (allegedly) an option…stay in his marriage! Don’t blame the Democartic Party for Jim divorcing his wife (can you be anymore disengaged from reality? “Jim Gibbons (R), in an effort to screw over his Party, filed for divorce today knowing full well that his wife will hire a Democratic operative in an effort to evisorate him.”
LOL!
Intersting stuff Chuck! Clearly its with the intent of ruining the gov. that the Mrs. picked the other side to represent her-but its no surprise. Perhaps her and Cornwall and Dayton all have a plan to “evisorate him”. As stated , one quick review of what they (Cornwall & Dayton) are doing and not doing begs to questions what side are they on? Hey I like the gov and I think any man going through the hell he must be going through needs a friend in court., and I’ll step up and be it!
