Indeed, there are some very interesting results in the ratings this year - including the fact that former Senate Minority Leader Dina Titus scored better than a number of Republicans. But there’s a rather cynical, and regional, reason for this which I’ll explain later. In the meantime, here are the composite scores…

For those who may wonder why we chose the bills we chose, let me just say for now that the underlying consideration was whether or not the bill expanded the size, growth, scope or cost of government.
So bills adding new regulations to tanning salons, changing the age for mandatory life vests from 13 to 12 and banning paint in schools made the cut. As did several bills which would have raised taxes. On the other hand, a bill to actually reduce the regulations foisted upon the state’s home-schooling families also made the list.
Oh, and whether or not the legislator signed the “Taxpayer Protection Pledge” was the first item on the ratings list.
I got a kick out of one somewhat unhappy GOP member of the assembly who complained, “Why didn’t you consult with us before doing your ratings?” To which I replied, “Why should I? You didn’t consult with me before you cast your vote.”
If they had many of them wouldn’t have scored so low this year. In fact, we lobbied in opposition to a number of these bills during the session, but a number of Republicans voted for them anyway. So don’t blame me.
Anyway, you can review the entire project, including an explanation of each bill we selected, by clicking on “2007 Ratings” HERE at the COPAC Nevada website.
