Phony Textbook Crisis

Professional educators and public school apologists have been chirping for years that education is so poorly funded that there isn’t even enough money for textbooks. Most of us on Planet Reality knew that was total B.S., but now we have professional educators admitting it publicly. Of course, the ONLY reason they are admitting it publicly is because they’re afraid that if other budget cuts aren’t enacted, they’re gonna lose the pay raise they were expecting to get next week.

Here’s what a Washoe County teacher who wants her cost-of-living increase wrote to a state legislator yesterday:

“Do not take away the COLA that we need and deserve. One area that could sustain budget cuts would be textbooks. I know our district is about to adopt a new science textbook and will be looking at adopting a new math textbook next. The current textbooks we use in Washoe County are current and effective in teaching our youth.”

So I guess the so-called textbook “crisis” not only isn’t a crisis…it’s non-existent.
