Someone, Please ‘Splain This to Me

OK, it appears the governor and the Legislature are prepared to drain our state’s emergency Rainy Day Fund because we’re in a financial crisis and there just isn’t a dime to spare anywhere in the budget which wouldn’t adversely affect critical government services in the areas of public education, health care for the indigent and public safety.

Really? Then would someone please explain to me the “critical” need for the following, which is advertised in this morning’s Nevada Appeal:

“The Nevada Arts Council will host a free talk by Jeanne Harrah Johnson, curator of ‘The Texture and Weave of Traditional Art’ exhibit followed by a gallery reception 4:30-6:30 p.m., today, at the OXS gallery in the Nevada Arts Council office, 716 N. Carson St., Suite A. For information, call 687-6680.”

The only information I want is why taxpayers should be subsidizing this sort of thing via the Nevada Arts Council…period? Governor Gibbons? Speaker Buckley? Anybody?
