Cornwalling Cornwall

Gov. Gibbons co-Chief-of-Staff Diane Cornwall finally sorta got “cornwalled” herself yesterday.

However, the executive department’s gain was the Department of Business & Industry’s loss. Reportedly, Cornwall refused to leave as “Chief Operating Officer” quietly unless the governor found her another taxpayer-funded job in government. So instead of being kicked completely to the curb - deservedly so for her overbearing personality, clinical paranoia and inability to play nice in the sandbox with those who reported to her - Cornwall was demoted and sent over to run B&I, thereby ushering in a new reign of terror on some 600 government employees who have done absolutely nothing whatsoever to deserve such a fate.

“Dianne is an incredibly talented leader and manager, and she will be a perfect fit for the Department of Business and Industry,” Gibbons said in a press release. “While her departure is a loss to my office, her vast experience in both government and business makes her a perfect person to lead B and I.”

This is what is commonly referred to as Grade A, unadulterated political bull-$%#&. If her “departure” would really be such a “loss” to the governor’s office, then why get rid of her? Unless you actually think that being demoted from supervising the head of B&I to being the head of B&I was a choice Cornwall voluntarily made. Come on.

There is nothing - NOTHING - which makes Diane Cornwall the “perfect person” to head up B&I. She has no extensive business experience and has the people skills of Dr. Kevorkian. The only possible good that can possibly come from this move is that it will be politically easier to fire her from this position six months from now - after “The Merlot Express” creates a living hell for both the business community and the employees who work in that department - than it apparently was as Chief Operating Officer.

Still, the governor’s executive staff could be excused for dancing around all afternoon yesterday humming, “Ding-dong the witch is dead.”

The Cornwall demotion aside, the other staff changes signal the potential to turn the Gibbons administration around. By all accounts, Hicks and Kieckhefer, along with Budget Czar Andrew Clinger, are top-notch and respected by both government insiders and the media. Now if they can just get the boss to stop “dating” in public until AFTER his divorce…

  1. Once again you eloquently stated the facts! My prayers go out to those in B & I because they are going to need it now. I know those left behind in the executive department have alot of cleaning up to do since the ‘Cornwall Reign of Terror ‘ has been removed. Its a shame that they cant go after Cornwall for ‘terrorism’ , Lord knows she is a first class terrorist against anyone working near her or reporting to her. Keep up the good work Chuck!
