Way back in 1995, when I was chairman of the Clark County GOP and just a “pup” of a political activist, I sent out a last-minute mailer in a “non-partisan” Henderson city council race advising Republican voters which of the two candidates, Amanda Cyphers, was a Republican. And she won.
For this cheeky action, Mike O’Callahan - former Nevada governor and then-editor of the Las Vegas Sun - editorialized that this was the worst sneak attack since Pearl Harbor and that political parties should stay out of “non-partisan” races.
My position then, and remains so today, is that there is no such thing as a “non-partisan” race for party leaders. So I’m pleased to see that Clark County Chairman Bernie Zadrowski has kept my tradition alive by publishing yesterday a list of Republicans who are running for judicial seats in his neck of the woods. They are:
Supreme Court Seat B———– Kris Pickering or Don Chairez
District Court Dept. 7————– Robert Spretnak
District Court Dept. 10- William “Bill” Kephart, David Rivers, or Jessie Walsh
District Court Dept. 12—————- Kurt Harris
District Court Dept. 17——————– Michael Villani
District Court Dept. 22——————Susan Johnson
