Fellow Conservatives and Liberians,
The following letter was sent this morning to Senator Reid:

Senator Reid,

It has been the Democrat mantra for some time now to say you support our troops but not the war. I disagree with you on this issue, but it is currently not the issue I wish to discuss with you. I would like to remind of the old saying “actions speak louder than words”.

The mistreatment of Marines in Berkley is a perfect example of your actions not living up to your words. You have been given the opportunity to support our Marines without supporting the war, and instead you have chosen procedural tactics to avoid going on record supporting either side.

Well, sir, while fear of taking a stand has lead you to stall to avoid voting, our Marines are taking a stand every day, with much more to fear than the next election. Regardless of your thoughts on this particular war, we sleep safely every night because of the men and women of our Military. How can you expect the Marines to keep fighting for us if, when given the opportunity, you aren’t willing to fight for them?

Please visit Congress.org to tell Senator Reid how you feel.

We’re sick and tired of watching Congressional leaders like Pelosi and Reid deliberately undermining support for the missions of our troops serving in Operation Iraqi Freedom & Operation Enduring Freedom. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!

We are asking all of our members and supporters and the general public to show up for these mass rallies. Please bring a “white flag” as a symbol to show our disgust with the “Surrender” policies being advocated by Congress against our troops.

My apologies for the late notice. If you can make time to attend, please do.

For part 2 of our series, I decided to go with the guy leading the pack. Rudy Giuliani is a lawyer and a former two term mayor of New York City.

The following is from Mr. Giuliani’s website:

Fiscal Discipline
Before Rudy was elected Mayor, tax-and-spend policies created billion-dollar deficits and led to the loss of hundreds of thousands of jobs in New York City. Rudy restored fiscal discipline by controlling spending and cutting wasteful programs. He cut the size of city-funded government bureaucracy by nearly 20% - excluding the number of cops on the street and teachers in the classroom. Rudy’s record proves he can deliver results and return fiscal discipline to the federal government.

Cutting Taxes
Rudy is the real fiscal conservative in the race. He cut taxes 23 times in New York and turned a $2.3 billion budget deficit into a multi-billion dollar surplus, while balancing the city’s budget. Because he turned his conservative principles into action, New York City taxpayers saved more than $9 billion in taxes and enjoyed their lowest tax burden in decades, while the economy grew and city government saw its revenues increase from the lower tax rates. Rudy Giuliani believes in supply-side economics, because he did it and he saw it work.

Abortion
Rudy Giuliani supports reasonable restrictions on abortion such as parental notification with a judicial bypass and a ban on partial birth abortion – except when the life of the mother is at stake. He’s proud that adoptions increased 66% while abortions decreased over 16% in New York City when he was Mayor. But Rudy understands that this is a deeply personal moral dilemma, and people of good conscience can disagree respectfully.

Marriage
Rudy Giuliani believes marriage is between a man and a woman. He does not - and has never - supported gay marriage. But he believes in equal rights under law for all Americans. That’s why he supports domestic partnerships that provide stability for committed partners in important legal and personal matters, while preserving the sanctity of marriage between a man and a woman.

There is much more on Rudy’s website and I recommend you give it a look.

I have a few personal thoughts on Mr. Giuliani as well. He is another highly intelligent individual and a strong fiscal conservative. I have no doubt Mr. Giuliani would fight to reduce the size of government if elected. I do, however have some serious doubts that a two term mayor has the experience necessary to be the leader of the free world. He has no foreign policy experience nor does he have any experience in congress.

I also have some doubts about his sincerity. Though I disagree with Rudy on abortion, I appreciate his willingness to stick to his guns. He has some backbone there. But then we come to the second amendment. He claims to support it and his website says he does, but his actions are much different. There is a great op-ed at humanevents.com, where Mr. Giuliani argued the Brady bill did not go far enough. He also argued in favor of a national gun registration and tougher national gun laws.

Rudy Giuliani is a sharp fiscal conservative, so if that’s your issue, he may be your guy. But if the second and tenth amendments are big issues to you (they are to me), You should probably keep looking.

On deck: John McCain.

Over the next week and a half or so, I am going to profile the Republican candidates for President. I am still a long ways out from announcing an endorsement for this race, but I thought it would be good to get this information out there. Since Ron Paul seems to have everybody talking after the debate, I may as well start there.

Ron Paul is a ten term congressman out of Texas who ran for President on the Libertarian ticket in 1988.

The following info comes courtesy of Ron’s webite.

Ron Paul was born and raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He graduated from Gettysburg College and the Duke University School of Medicine, before proudly serving as a flight surgeon in the U.S. Air Force during the 1960s. He and his wife Carol moved to Texas in 1968, where he began his medical practice in Brazoria County. As a specialist in obstetrics/gynecology, Dr. Paul has delivered more than 4,000 babies. He and Carol, who reside in Lake Jackson, Texas, are the proud parents of five children and have 17 grandchildren.

Dr. Paul on the issues:

Debt and Taxes
Working Americans like lower taxes. So do I. Lower taxes benefit all of us, creating jobs and allowing us to make more decisions for ourselves about our lives.

War and Foreign Policy
The war in Iraq was sold to us with false information. The area is more dangerous now than when we entered it. We destroyed a regime hated by our direct enemies, the jihadists, and created thousands of new recruits for them. This war has cost more than 3,000 American lives, thousands of seriously wounded, and hundreds of billions of dollars. We must have new leadership in the White House to ensure this never happens again.

Border Security and Immigration Reform
The talk must stop. We must secure our borders now. A nation without secure borders is no nation at all. It makes no sense to fight terrorists abroad when our own front door is left unlocked.

There is much more on Dr. Paul’s website and I encourage you to check it out.

Here are some of my quick personal thoughts on Ron Paul. He is a very smart individual with plenty of experience in government. One thing that impresses me about Dr. Paul is a lack of controversy. I’m sure it’s out there, but after ten terms in congress, the first few pages of a google search don’t show a single scandal he has been accused of or involved in.

Dr. Paul is very much a limited government Republican. He has been quoted as saying he would do away with the IRS and the CIA. I don’t think he has the support to make a serious race for himself, but his presence will change this race. Many Republicans are starving for more limited government candidates. Dr. Paul’s presence in this race and its debates is going to force all of the candidates to explore some of their stances.

Ron Paul also has great clarity of vision. He has plans for his ideas drawn out step by step. If the rest of the field wants to compete with Ron Paul on the issues, they better have some meat and potatoes. You will not beat Dr. Paul in a debate with all sizzle and no steak.

Next up: Rudy Giuliani.

Nevada’s population is one of the most heavily taxed in the nation if not the most heavily taxed. Yes, our taxes are very high WITHOUT a state income tax. One of the main reasons our gas is so high is the taxes on each and every gallon you purchase. Now why doesn’t NDOT have enough money? Ask your representatives!

Our elected officials at all levels need to learn how to administrate our state business. A major part of administration is staying within budget. Does your house hold budget expand or can you use deficiet spending very long before they com’ a knocking? Our local politicians are unfortunately following the example of their federal elected brothers but they (our state representatives) cannot print money. Thank you Lord!

Watch carefully who votes for tax increases and complain to their offices now and remember when they are up for re-election. They will try to get re-elected since they did such a great job of raising your taxes!

Mayor Marv, needs to pay more attention to the people he represents. Should Mayor Marv resign because he was convicted of DUI?

Only the citizens of Carson City can decide. A petition is being circulated to ask him to resign. There are many people that think that the DUI is the last straw. How many behind the scene deals has mayor Marv agree to for our community’s best? When the citizen’s said no to a new tax for the V&T railroad; why did mayor Marv push through a tax? Some call the V&T “Marv’s Folly” especially since they still do not have all the right of ways tied down. Where is the $50 million more that was not fore seen that is know needed? Will the cost of the V&T hit ONE BILLION DOLLARS and will the fare be $100 for the trip from Virginia City to Carson City, one way?

Once again, the leader of the limited government party in Nevada has voted for a tax increase. Luckily, despite Raggio’s and Townsend’s best efforts to raise our taxes, this one was killed by more clear minded folks in the senate.

The Nevada Senate killed a tax proposal late Tuesday that would have helped the Washoe County School District by providing funds to build new schools and refurbish current ones…..

…..Voting for the bill were Senate Majority Leader Bill Raggio, R-Reno; state Sens. Bernice Mathews, D-Reno; and Randolph Townsend, R-Reno.

Just a reminder, according to Ty Cobb, we should support this kind of behavior, because they are Republicans. Never mind how un-Republican they act, it’s the letter by their name that really matters.

Tonight the Washoe County Republican Party central committee will vote on their party chair. Some time back Heidi Smith announced an election to fill the position she intended to vacate. At that point, former AD26 candidate Richard Disney threw his hat in the ring. He was the only person to do so. It would now appear that Heidi has been encouraged from behind the scenes not to allow Richard to obtain that position and is therefore running against him.

NICPAC endorsed Mr. Disney early in his race in AD26 and we are endorsing him again for Washoe County Republican Party chairman.

From Mr. Disney’s website:

Richard Disney is a former U.S. Army officer who served for ten years. Eight of the ten years were spent overseas. Richard settled in Northern Nevada after leaving the Army and became a licensed Series 65 Investment Advisor. Now, Richard is working to organize the Conservative Leadership Conference 2007 to be held October 11-13, 2007 at John Asquaga’s Nugget in Reno/Sparks, Nevada.

If you are member of the Central Committee please show up tonight to vote. It’s an important vote and Richard Disney could use your support. If you are not a member please show up anyway to voice your support. Richard Disney is a strong conservative with proven leadership skills. No one is more qualified than Richard Disney to lead the Washoe County Republican Party.

You can get the when and where here.

Yesterday’s shooting in Virginia was a tragic event, no doubt. The anti-gun lobby can be seen all over the news already blaming the gun and not the shooter for what occured. You can bet they will be attacking the second ammendment with renewed vigor.

What la la land do liberals live in that they believe if we outlaw guns the murders, criminals, and terrorists will gladly hand theirs over? Oh yeah, there was also that little incident a few years back involving some planes and some buildings. Seems to me you can kill more people with an airplane than a gun. We should probably outlaw those too while we’re at it.

NICPAC will be keeping our eyes and ears open, as I am convinced we will see new legislative attacks on the second ammendment on both the state and national levels.

Concerned citizens use this opportunity to roll up their sleeves and contribute their time, talent, and expertise to express their thoughts, ideas, suggestions and concerns — all to make their city a better place to live.

And right here at home, the Sparks City Council wants to hear from you to make our city even better.

The City of Sparks is embarking on a new program to increase public participation with the Sparks Municipal Initiatives and Leadership Effort (SMILE) program. SMILE is uniquely designed to encourage citizens to work together with the City Council and city staff to help shape the city’s future. The program does not require a great deal of time. Citizens of Sparks are encouraged to join SMILE and share their viewpoints on the city’s priorities, direction and long-term vision.
