Dems redeploy away from Murtha plan

After winning a symbolic victory with a non-binding House resolution, moderate Democrats have decided to redeploy from the Murtha-Pelosi “slow-bleed” strategy which would defund and/or manipulate the Iraqi war effort, as well as possibly endanger the lives of US troops in Iraq.
To many Democrats, that was not only impolitic, it was disloyal.
“He stepped all over Speaker Pelosi’s message of support for the troops,” said Rep. Jim Cooper (Tenn.). “That was not team play, to put it mildly.”
Even after that Web appearance, some senior Democratic aides say Murtha might well have been able to save his plan if he had quickly laid it out before the Democratic caucus and marshaled Democratic leaders behind a defense. Instead, the House recessed for a week, Murtha disappeared from the media, and Democratic leaders were silent, saying they could not discuss Iraq legislation because no real plan existed.

The nutroots can’t be too happy about this. But this doesn’t let the 17 turncoat Republicans who voted for the House resolution, and the eight in the Senate off the hook.

As I watched, much against my will, the summary of the Oscar results (I was trying to get the local weather forecast) I was thinking about how nice it would be if we had a telephone number to call and could vote on whether a particular actor or director or ex-politician that is both would be allowed to stay in the country and, if enough people voted “No”, they’d be arrested by immigration and deported to Canada or other socialist country of their choice that was willing to take them. (Canada’s standards are pretty low, though.)
That would certainly give me an incentive to watch those movie “look at me” awards, but that’s about the only thing that would.
