Knee-jerk nukes

June 17th, 2007 at 4:09 pm . by el nuko

Britain joined the United States’ invasion to oust the Taliban in 2001 because it feared America would “nuke the shit” out of Afghanistan, the former British ambassador to Washington reportedly told a television documentary to be screened Saturday. In comments printed in advance in the Daily Mirror tabloid on Monday, Christopher Meyer said that fear explained why Prime Minister Tony Blair chose to stand with US President George W. Bush in his decision to invade Afghanistan in the immediate aftermath of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks — to temper his aggressive battle plans.

“Blair’s real concern was that there would be quote unquote ‘a knee-jerk reaction’ by the Americans … they would go thundering off and nuke the shit out of the place without thinking straight,” Meyer reported told the documentary, according to the Mirror.

Exactly so - I have been aware for a long time that Blair plays well in America.

as I say I give him credit for Iraq and Afghanistan. Even there I wonder as to his motives. We will have to await the auto bio I think on that one.

I am currenetly reading Ed Husain’s the Ilsamist - the true story of how he got involved with the Jihadi’s but also got out back to the real world. It’s a great light read, for the popular market but it is also an understated attack on how the political authorities allowed Islam to flourish (under both conservative and liberal/left administrations). It is candid on how Islam lies to kuffirs so we can never take them at their word.

the honor killings have been going on apace for years but the PC brigade refused to do anything.
The details of the killings are horrific beyond words.

But we will not execute anyone. We know not the value of human life.

Vimto, you mean like the story in the Telegraph about the rising number of honor killings in England?

In court, it was disclosed that Banaz, who was Kurdish, had told police on four occasions that her family was trying to kill her. However, instead of protecting her, they dismissed her claims as melodramatic and even told her family, in clear breach of police guidelines that state that the families of women threatened with death for “dishonouring” them should not be approached.

“The result has been that Asian women now feel police won’t believe them,” says Miss Sanghera. “The police are fumbling in the dark.”

The truth, she says, is that police are failing to protect young women at risk of being killed by their families, often for something as trivial as wearing western make-up. Although a high-profile prevention scheme was set up four years ago, senior officers say that a series of measures aimed at saving lives has been shelved, delayed or ignored by Scotland Yard. There has been widespread criticism of the Metropolitan Police Force for its handling of Banaz’s case (five officers face an internal disciplinary inquiry).

One senior police source admitted to The Sunday Telegraph that, if the scheme had been in place, Banaz might have been alive today. “We started to learn lessons,” he said, “and then stopped learning them as a result of political correctness.”

One young woman, too scared to be identified, tells a shocking tale of brutality at the hands of her family. When she refused a forced marriage her three elder brothers lured her to a relative’s home and beat her for an hour. “I was bleeding and my nose was broken,” she says, “but even so my brother handed me lighter fuel and a box of matches and said, ‘You know what you have to do. Do it or we will do it for you’.” She was rescued by friends but knows that if her family ever find her she will be killed.

Hey vimto.
It’s not easy for us over here to get the same perspective about Blair and the UK government, as you do. Mostly we have the impression that Blair is a staunch supporter and friend of the U.S., and not much about his conduct and policies with the U.K. I was very surprised, a few weeks ago, to read about how the Queen was disappointed by Blair’s domestic policies, and how they would effect Britain for a very long time, in an adverse way.
So he’s gonna try and jam the EU treaty down your throats, like Bush is trying to jam Shamnesty down our’s?

Hi guys n gals,

- don’t trust Britain from now on. There is no one here who will stand with America other than on a short term political basis.

Blair intends one last act of treachery before he goes - ratifying the E.U, charter (by any other name).

He will always have credit for standing by Iraq and Afghanistan, but he has sown the seeds of destruction for the UK - by the break up of the kindom, through the EU treaty, and allowing (I would say even promoting) Islam to grow unchecked.

Y’all are being really blessed with rain right now. Maybe you need to invest in a jet ski to get up and down the highways.
