Defending the Big Lie

September 26th, 2007 at 10:58 am . by el nuko

A couple weeks ago, a British opinion research company released a public opinion poll from Iraq, and used simple mathematical extrapolation to arrive at the stunning and surrealistic estimate of some 1.2 million Iraqi deaths resulting from the war.

Within hours of the poll’s release, Harry Reid went on the record to quote these poll findings as FACT.

“Today, now we learn that 1 million Iraqis have been killed since the war started. A million. That’s pretty hard to comprehend…”

So, how does the Left defend the Big Lie? By making it bigger, of course.
This entry at the dailykos.com (the new voice of the Mainstream Democrat Party) takes Reid’s assertions, and makes them even more ridiculous…

“35% of the Iraqi population is either dead, maimed or a refugee”

Here is the screenshot.

Linkfest Haven, the Blogger's OasisSo, according to this “well-researched” piece, an extrapolation from a public opinion polling company has evolved into a Harry Reid FACT. And now according to the writer, becomes … “the best estimate say more than 1,000,000 Iraqis have perished.”

The Best Estimate? I would suggest that to buy this “research” would require a willing suspension of disbelief.

MNJohnnie adds some perspective of the dkos “research”…

Guess you missed this disclaimer Reuters put on your “4.2 million Iraqi refugees s“source””

Reuters and AlertNet are not responsible for the content of this article or for any external Internet sites. The views expressed are the author’s alone.

Seems not even Reuters was willing to buy this absurd number

http://www.alertnet.org/thenews/newsdesk/UNHCR/3600c843dbc8bc1408ddae9d73dd8cf2.htm

So even using this fraud of a number for refugees the number remains absurdly impossible

8,750,000 - 4,200,000 refugees = 4,550,000 Iraqis killed and maimed /1642 days of the war = 2,771 Iraqis killed and wounded EVER day of the war.

PURE BS without even the possibility of a being with in a million miles of the truth.

UPDATE: Bernie has the scoop of the century…..More Than 6 Million Palestinians killed since 2000

Well, there are still those that spew the Lancet report as fact. It can be called a fact if it is reported by a source with media access, and even if it is easily proven to be false, it doesn’t matter…it’s already out there.

    so true.
I ran into a piece at The Atlantic that quoted Bob Hebert’s slime from the NYT which talked about how the GOP hated black people.

Hebert’s piece was unsourced. The Atlantic’s only source was Hebert’s unsourced piece.

But, like you say, it doesn’t matter, because it’s out there.

Also, back to the subject at hand, check these links, and what Ayatollah Sistani has to say.

Ayatollah Sistani blasts Arab news networks.

“Be as a great mountain – he added – immoveable before the attempts of some media to attack our unity, exaggerating the number of the victims and speaking of confessional war”.

I would say that just about anything is pretty hard for Harry Reid to comprehend including the instructions to lift the toilet lid before urinating.
