Coalition rolls up 100-woman suicide cell in raid of Iraq safe house

March 5th, 2008 at 5:57 pm . by el nuko

BAGHDAD — Iraq has captured an Al Qaida-aligned cell that recruited and deployed women for suicide operations. On March 1, Iraqi and U.S. troops raided a suspected Al Qaida safe house in Al Makhesa, in northeastern Diyala. Officials said scores of suspected women operatives recruited as suicide bombers were arrested. The women suicide cell was said to have consisted of 100 operatives.

Officials said Al Qaida has increased its use of women for suicide operations.

The women cell was said to have operated in the Diyala province. Officials said some of the women were recruited by their husbands for suicide operations against Iraqi and U.S. forces.

U.S. military commander Gen. David Petraeus reported a slight increase in suicide-vest attacks in Iraq. He said the suicide vests were being handed to women, regarded as being more capable of reaching their targets than car bombs.

Good grief.

Qaeda ties to Bhutto blast

October 19th, 2007 at 6:59 am . by el nuko

from Myway news

The suicide attack that killed up to 136 people and shattered former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto’s joyous return from exile bore the hallmarks of a warlord tied to al-Qaida and the Taliban, authorities said Friday. Forensic experts studied a severed head to determine the bomber’s identity.

Baitullah Mehsud - a top militant leader on the unstable Afghan border - threatened this month to meet Bhutto’s return to Pakistan with suicide attacks, according to local media reports.

The top security official in the province where the attack took place suggested that Bhutto’s camp had not seriously considered the need for security for her return after eight years in exile.

“They got carried away by political exigencies instead of taking our concern seriously,” said the official, Ghulam Muhammad Mohtarem.

Bhutto’s procession had been creeping toward the center of Karachi for 10 hours with supporters thronging her armored truck when a small explosion erupted near the front of the vehicle. That was quickly followed by a larger blast, destroying two police vans escorting the procession. Interior Minister Aftab Khan Sherpao said the vehicles on the left side of Bhutto’s truck had borne the brunt of the blast, one of the deadliest in Pakistan’s history.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility.

“the greatest campaign finance scandal in American history”

greatest-campaign-finance-scandal-in-american-history.jpgNow that this phrase has been published by a respected member of the MSM, and, as such, is now in the LexusNexis search database, it seems appropriate to associate that phrase with the person to whom it refers: Hillary Rodham Clinton.

I received a ping from FReeper “Spirit of Allegiance” this morning which pointed to an article which featured our pal, “Dougfromupland.”

The article was in the San Francisco Chronicle’s on line edition. Here is the introductory paragraph of the article about “the greatest campaign finance scandal in American history.”

In his other life, Douglas Cogan, 59, is a San Bernardino County commercial real estate broker. But for years, the conservative Republican has spent thousands of hours painstakingly researching what he calls “the greatest campaign finance scandal in American history” by a woman he calls one of the most dangerous political figures the country has ever seen - Hillary Rodham Clinton.

Since it appears that Google has enabled “google-bombing” again, I thought it might be interesting to get the phrase, “the greatest campaign finance scandal in American history,” permanently associated with Hillary Rodham Clinton. That is the purpose of this post. And, if any of you bloggers out there want to join in, just copy+paste this post at your blog, or pass it along in the comments section of your favorite blogs. The more the merrier. I’m going to track-post it to Linkfests, and post it at FR and Hannity. I’ll also activate every tag I have ever used to associate it with this post. Heh.

Quiet Triumph Brewing

Great piece at American Thinker analyzes the untold story in Afghanistan, the tribal areas of Pakistan, and what is developing as a major triumph in the WOT.

The Stategy is working

Despite liberals’ claims that al Qaeda terror cells are a bogey-man of the Bush Administration used to scare people to vote Republican, we can now see a direct case in which a terror cell was activated for a specific purpose: to save their jihadist buddies dying at Tora Bora.

The claim that fighting a terrorist is “giving them what they want” is one of the greatest fallacies of our time. When they attack us, it is for a specific purpose. When we do the exact opposite of what they want, they lose. They want us to disengage in the places they want to control, and then go home. Fighting them militarily, politically, economically, and diplomatically is the only way to defeat them. Giving in to them only makes them stronger.

The Bush Administration, most likely through the CIA and DIA, has pulled off a fantastic maneuver to split the global Islamic jihad movement at its base. This is the kind of stuff we may not hear about in detail for another fifty years. Congratulations to our President and our brave soldiers and intelligence assets for making this happen.

Al Qaeda is losing in Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Iraq. The fact is now inescapable that they have lost the ability to impose their political will on the West, although this does not mean they still can’t hurt us.

Those politicians, Democrats or Republicans, who are calling for disengagement now are severely misinformed.

The jihadist threat to the Pakistani government has in fact been significantly reduced. A few days ago Usama bin Laden reportedly made a rare call for direct attacks on the Pakistani government. That is because Pakistani troops have cut off the escape route from Tora Bora and he is trying to save his men, or possibly himself. He is trying to go around the Taliban leadership, which now opposes him and appeal directly to the people. It is a call made in desperation.

In previous writings I mentioned rumors that he might be going to Iraq himself. If he has no secure place in Pakistan or Afghanistan, it may actually happen. I doubt Iran would want the additional heat of hosting him. Iraq may be the only place left for him to go.

Since President Bush has been “advising” Senator Clinton on Iraq, and since she recently refused to commit to troop withdrawal, one has to wonder if secret plans are being drawn up to lure Usama bin Laden to Iraq where it will be much harder for him to hide.
