For every hero on the stage
On parade or in the grave
With medals pinned and glory flags unfurled
The humble serviceman by scores
Packs the caissons, Guards the doors
Sails sea and sky across the troubled world
Comrades in arms they share the call
Who stepped across that line for all
Knowing well that fate might call their name
They crossed that sword mark in the dust
For freedoms sake and God they trust
And did it not for fortunes gold or fame
So on Remembrance Day give thanks
To veterans past and current ranks
And Praise Eternal God that they were there
Oh quiet heroes, every one
Without your hand, naught would be won
Pray our acclaim, the purest badge you wear
Linked at Rantburg (thanks!)

“My mom and dad came to this country in pursuit of the American dream. And guess what happened. They found the American dream to be alive and well right here in Louisiana,“
With 53% of the popular vote, Bobby Jindal is the first Non White to hold the office of Governor. Jindal, who has an Oxford education, had lost the governor’s race four years ago to Gov. Kathleen Blanco. He won a congressional seat in conservative suburban New Orleans a year later.
He promised to fight corruption and rid the state of those “feeding at the public trough,” revisiting a campaign theme.”They can either go quietly or they can go loudly, but either way, they will go,” he said, and promised to call the Legislature into special session to address ethics reform.
Jindal built up support with a theme of ”buyer’s remorse” for those who voted for Blanco in the last election and had regreted that decision. Blanco was widely criticized for the state’s response to Hurricane Katrina and she announced months ago that she would not seek re-election. Her condemnation was well deserved as she spent the time preceding the Katrina disaster consulting with Ex-Clinton cabinet member James Lee Witt on how best to skim federal funds that were destined for the hurricane ravaged state instead of co-ordinating law enforcement and disaster services.
Pearson Cross, a University of Louisiana at Lafayette political scientist gave his summation ”I think the Jindal camp, almost explicitly, (wanted) to cast it this way: If you were able to revote, who would you vote for?”
The Democrats ran perhaps their most disgusting campaign in modern history against Jindal using race and religion as wedge issues. The Rothenberg Political Report has the lowdown on the pathetic smear the Louisiana Democratic Party tried to paint Jindal with, accusing him of being a radical Catholic who hated protestants. The ads only ran in heavily protestant areas of the state.

Beto sends a new poem
Winston
Into the looming dark
My old friend Winston gazed
“Come hither friend and see the light!”
He said with finger raised
So straining hard and squinting then
I saw a glimmer spare
By and by it closer came
Soon it would be here
It seemed so much a phantom
Floating there upon the mist
But as its bearing yielded not
I saw his sat’ric twist
The light was firm embedded
Upon a giant of wrath
And there on either side of me
Were rails that bound its path
I turned to see my world of love
In peril dire and dread
And wondered why I tarried so
When I’d much warning had
Dear Winston tried to make a point
He did so as a Tao
That sometimes peril come as light
And recognize it now
For soon your group enlightenment
May be your abrogation
There’s never peace where justice fails
And giants presage your nation

Updated and Bumped
Momentum is building. Google hits 1,680,000 entries for the phrase “the greatest campaign finance scandal in American history.” Hillary Rodham Clinton is now at the top of the heap. Keep it going folks!
++++++
“the+greatest+campaign+finance+scandal+in+American+history”
“the greatest campaign finance scandal in American history”
Now that this phrase has been published by a respected member of the MSM, and, as such, is now in the LexusNexis search database, it seems appropriate to associate that phrase with the person to whom it refers: Hillary Rodham Clinton.
I received a ping from FReeper “Spirit of Allegiance” this morning which pointed to an article which featured our pal, “Dougfromupland.”
The article was in the San Francisco Chronicle’s on line edition. Here is the introductory paragraph of the article about “the greatest campaign finance scandal in American history.”
In his other life, Douglas Cogan, 59, is a San Bernardino County commercial real estate broker. But for years, the conservative Republican has spent thousands of hours painstakingly researching what he calls “the greatest campaign finance scandal in American history” by a woman he calls one of the most dangerous political figures the country has ever seen - Hillary Rodham Clinton.
Since it appears that Google has enabled “google-bombing” again, I thought it might be interesting to get the phrase, “the greatest campaign finance scandal in American history,” permanently associated with Hillary Rodham Clinton. That is the purpose of this post. And, if any of you bloggers out there want to join in, just copy+paste this post at your blog, or pass it along in the comments section of your favorite blogs. The more the merrier. I’m going to track-post it to Linkfests, and post it at FR and Hannity. I’ll also activate every tag I have ever used to associate it with this post. Heh.

That is a quote from Tacitus. I disagree. I say it is is best appreciated in those ages in which it is most keenly needed: in the time of dire peril.
Here is another Tacitus quote “Truth is confirmed by inspection and delay; falsehood by haste and uncertainty”, I heartily agree.
When nuke asked me to become a part of Nuke’s News I was flattered. I don’t post or comment much even though I read the entire blog every day. I’ve always been that way, watching and digesting all the information and drawing conclusions later. My first blog, sweatinitout, started out as a political commentary but with my reflective ways, it wasn’t viable. Who wants to talk about something weeks or months after it’s already been talked to death? That’s why sweatinitout became a poetry blog, mainly poems to honor our soldiers, past, present and future. I didn’t know if I needed to give out poetry here or to speak when I felt I had something to say.
Well, tonight I have something to say.
We are in serious trouble as a nation if the current cadre of candidates is the best we can do. I wouldn’t trust these bums with getting the groceries into the house from the car, let alone running the country. Even Fred Thompson, who under close scrutiny, is as vacuous as a thermos liner. They are almost exclusively two-faced, lying weasels who are an invention of the media, especially the democratic candidates whom the press is shoving down our throats with “haste and uncertainty”.
There is one candidate, though. One I’ve watched very closely and examined intensely, Mike Huckabee. He is a noble character and this is evident when he engages voters face to face. His infectious enthusiasm is inspiring people to engage the process and he is winning hearts along with the votes. I could go on about his humble roots, or his self effacing and noble behavior while he served the people of Arkansas.
I commented to nuke in an earlier post “One talent a leader must have at his dispense is the power of moving intellect and emotions.
Inspiration.
It’s what distinguishes not so great presidents like FDR and JFK, and gave them the ability to move great masses of countrymen to achieve great things. They had a vision of what was truly noble. It’s what made them great men. Teddy Roosevelt (perhaps our greatest president after Lincoln) is quoted:
“Far better is it to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs, even though checkered by failure… than to rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy nor suffer much, because they live in a gray twilight that knows not victory nor defeat.”
We live in a time where we face the prospect of catastrophe unless we are moved to do mighty things and to win glorious triumphs. That those accomplishments may be checkered by failure is grist for the critic but that criticism is secondary to what is accomplished in the end.
Mike Huckabee is an inspirational man with ideas and vision that could prod our collective spirits to do the mighty and win those triumphs.
