Update: Martial Law declared

From Yahoo News (AP)-breaking news
ISLAMABAD, Pakistan - Gen. Pervez Musharraf declared a state of emergency on Saturday, ahead of a crucial Supreme Court ruling on his future as president, thrusting the country deeper into political turmoil as it struggles with spreading Islamic militancy.
The government blocked transmissions of private news channels in several cities and telephone services in the capital, Islamabad, were cut.
Seven Supreme Court judges immediately rejected the emergency, which suspended the current constitution. Police blocked entry to the Supreme Court building and later took the chief justice and other judges away in a convoy, witnesses said.
Opposition leader Benazir Bhutto flew from Dubai on Saturday and was sitting on a plane at Karachi airport, waiting to see if she would be arrested or deported, her spokesman Wajid Hasan said after speaking to the former prime minister by telephone from London.
“The chief of army staff has proclaimed a state of emergency and issued a provisional constitutional order,” a newscaster on state Pakistan TV said, adding that Musharraf would address the nation later Saturday.
I don’t know why anyone should be too concerned about this development, because Pakistan is dominated by Muslims, and Islam is the Religion of Peace™
These developments have NOTHING, I repeat NOTHING to do with Islam.
I’ve told you folks for years now, Islam is a peaceful religion. Anybody who doesn’t know this by now is just a neocon Bushie global warming denier.
You don’t have to believe me…..
Just ask the Islamic Rage Boy.
“My mom and dad came to this country in pursuit of the American dream. And guess what happened. They found the American dream to be alive and well right here in Louisiana,“
With 53% of the popular vote, Bobby Jindal is the first Non White to hold the office of Governor. Jindal, who has an Oxford education, had lost the governor’s race four years ago to Gov. Kathleen Blanco. He won a congressional seat in conservative suburban New Orleans a year later.
He promised to fight corruption and rid the state of those “feeding at the public trough,” revisiting a campaign theme.”They can either go quietly or they can go loudly, but either way, they will go,” he said, and promised to call the Legislature into special session to address ethics reform.
Jindal built up support with a theme of ”buyer’s remorse” for those who voted for Blanco in the last election and had regreted that decision. Blanco was widely criticized for the state’s response to Hurricane Katrina and she announced months ago that she would not seek re-election. Her condemnation was well deserved as she spent the time preceding the Katrina disaster consulting with Ex-Clinton cabinet member James Lee Witt on how best to skim federal funds that were destined for the hurricane ravaged state instead of co-ordinating law enforcement and disaster services.
Pearson Cross, a University of Louisiana at Lafayette political scientist gave his summation ”I think the Jindal camp, almost explicitly, (wanted) to cast it this way: If you were able to revote, who would you vote for?”
The Democrats ran perhaps their most disgusting campaign in modern history against Jindal using race and religion as wedge issues. The Rothenberg Political Report has the lowdown on the pathetic smear the Louisiana Democratic Party tried to paint Jindal with, accusing him of being a radical Catholic who hated protestants. The ads only ran in heavily protestant areas of the state.

HENDERSON, Nev. — Two Henderson Police officers apprehended Chester Arthur Stiles Monday night during a routine traffic stop.
Officer Mike Dye pulled in behind a white Buick Century with no plates on Green Valley Parkway at Sunset Road about 7 p.m. The driver of the car pulled into a parking lot and handed Officer Dye a California driver’s license. The picture on the license looked nothing like the driver of the car.
Officer Mike Gower pulled in behind the car stop to back up Dye. When the officers questioned the driver about the driver’s license, the driver admitted he was Stiles, 37, who has been wanted in connection with the sexual assault of a little girl.
Henderson Police contacted Metro Police, who is investigating the sexual assault, and custody of Stiles was transferred to Metro Police.

PARIS - First Interpol unmasked his face. Now it knows his name.
The international police organization, working off tips from people who responded to a global appeal for help, said Monday it has identified a suspected pedophile shown in Internet photos abusing young boys.
The man, whose face initially was disguised behind a digitalized swirl, is now thought to be on the run in Thailand, Interpol said. He is said to be an English teacher at a school in South Korea.
Interpol said it now knows the suspect’s name, nationality, date of birth and passport number, but it did not release that information. Police in Thailand said Tuesday that the suspect was a 32-year-old Canadian.
Interpol said the man flew from Seoul, South Korea, to Bangkok, Thailand, last Thursday, with security cameras documenting his arrival at Thai immigration.
“Thailand is at the center of an international manhunt, and authorities in the country, in cooperation with Interpol and police around the world, are hunting him down,” Noble said.
Interpol declined any further comment Monday beyond its statement.
Interpol provided two new photos of the suspect Monday. One, taken by Thai immigration officials upon his arrival in Bangkok, showed him seemingly older, with close-cropped hair and wearing glasses. The other, which Interpol said was provided by an informant, was a simple head shot of the man, smiling and ruddy-faced.
