From News.com.au
PARENTS of sick children in Britain will be allowed to use IVF to create “spare-part babies” under controversial laws published yesterday.
The legislation will dramatically relax rules on IVF clinics creating “saviour siblings” who can help cure their older brothers and sisters of medical conditions such as leukemia.
Experts said that one day they could create a “designer baby” with kidneys perfectly compatible with a sibling suffering renal failure.
More immediately, saviour siblings could give umbilical cord blood or bone marrow to family members in the hope of treating conditions such as sickle cell anaemia.
The Government’s Human Fertilisation and Embryology Bill will be debated in British Parliament and is expected to become law in 2009.
This is happening across the pond, but in light of the recent stem cell debate in this country, the issue of “sanctity of life” cannot be ignored any longer. Although it hasn’t gotten much play in the States, a quick search of the term “saviour siblings” reveals a trove of articles and position papers on both sides of the scientific and ethical divide.
I think it is interesting to see how the press frames the issue in the headline….
“Parents win right to grow babies for ’spare parts’”

Similar in tone and fervor to the pro-abortion argument, proponents attempt to frame the issue in terms of parental “rights”, and that cloned humanity is not humanity at all, but rather “spare parts.” In their ‘Brave New World,’ cloned humanity becomes a lesser race of life, a new species, in fact, no different than laboratory rats or research monkeys. Except, in this case, there is no PETA to protest the enslavement of this new lesser race of humanity.
This is truly an abomination. It is revolting. It must not stand.

How bad must it be in Britain for a senior police officer, the President of the National Black Police Association, no less, to be calling for a dramatic increase in the use of a policy which amounts to racial profiling?
The story from Guardian UK:
Speaking at the group’s annual conference, Keith Jarrett will ask Police Minister Tony McNulty and Sir Ian Blair, Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police, to consider escalating stop-and-searches among black people to reduce the number of shootings that have claimed the lives of another two teenagers in the past week.
The disputed use of stop-and-search has arguably caused more conflict than any other modern policing tactic and first achieved national notoriety during the Eighties, when it was blamed for precipitating inner-city race riots. Black people are four times more likely to be stopped than white people, according to Scotland Yard’s figures, which continues to give rise to charges of police racism.
Jarrett admitted he was braced for a negative backlash during his headline speech in Bristol last Wednesday. It is the first time that a senior black officer has called for an increase in stop-and-search among the black community.
Traditionally the association, which has 8,000 members ranging from senior figures such as Tarique Ghaffur, assistant commissioner in the Metropolitan police, to backroom staff, has pointed to the ‘alarming’ and disproportionate numbers of black people who are stopped and searched.
Jarrett told The Observer: ‘From the return that I am getting from a lot of black people, they want to stop these killings, these knife crimes, and if it means their sons and daughters are going to be inconvenienced by being stopped by the police, so be it. I’m hoping we go down that road.
When guns are outlawed, only outlaws have guns.

Updated and Bumped
Momentum is building. Google hits 1,680,000 entries for the phrase “the greatest campaign finance scandal in American history.” Hillary Rodham Clinton is now at the top of the heap. Keep it going folks!

“the+greatest+campaign+finance+scandal+in+American+history”
“the greatest campaign finance scandal in American history”
Now that this phrase has been published by a respected member of the MSM, and, as such, is now in the LexusNexis search database, it seems appropriate to associate that phrase with the person to whom it refers: Hillary Rodham Clinton.
I received a ping from FReeper “Spirit of Allegiance” this morning which pointed to an article which featured our pal, “Dougfromupland.”
The article was in the San Francisco Chronicle’s on line edition. Here is the introductory paragraph of the article about “the greatest campaign finance scandal in American history.”
In his other life, Douglas Cogan, 59, is a San Bernardino County commercial real estate broker. But for years, the conservative Republican has spent thousands of hours painstakingly researching what he calls “the greatest campaign finance scandal in American history” by a woman he calls one of the most dangerous political figures the country has ever seen - Hillary Rodham Clinton.
Since it appears that Google has enabled “google-bombing” again, I thought it might be interesting to get the phrase, “the greatest campaign finance scandal in American history,” permanently associated with Hillary Rodham Clinton. That is the purpose of this post. And, if any of you bloggers out there want to join in, just copy+paste this post at your blog, or pass it along in the comments section of your favorite blogs. The more the merrier. I’m going to track-post it to Linkfests, and post it at FR and Hannity. I’ll also activate every tag I have ever used to associate it with this post. Heh.
