Just Words?

April 8th, 2008 at 10:24 pm . by el nuko

The previous post about the iman calling the Dutch schoolchildren “dogs” stirred my curiosity. With Geert Wilders making headlines with his movie Fitna, the murder of Theo van Gogh, and the books and speeches by Ayaan Hirsi Ali, the Netherlands does indeed seem to be the center of the struggle for the future of Europe.

Occupying a territory only slightly larger than the state of Massachussets, The Netherlands has 453 mosques according to the Social and Cultural-planning agency of the Dutch government. Nearly all have multiple foreign Imams.

Recently, a report by the Dutch intelligence service (AIVD) named six radical mosques, all which are now under surveillance. All six preach the Salafist strain of Islam and all six receive funding from Saudi Arabia. They are:

El Tawheed Mosque in Amsterdam; Sjeikh Al Islam Ibn Taymia in Den Haag; Al Fourkaan mosque in Eindhoven; Al Mouahidine mosque in Helmond; Society of Islamic youth in Breda; Islamic Society for Education and Knowledge Transfer in Tilburg.

After three imans were expelled in 2005 for preaching sedition at the Al Fourkann mosque, a mosque spokesman said,
“If an imam preaches incitement, I am against that. Maybe that has happened sometimes in this mosque, but I don’t know about it because I was not present.”

His statement sounds eerily familiar to Barack H. Obama’s response to statements made by former Nation of Islam, and later Trinity UCC pastor Jeremiah Wright …
“I reject outright the statements by Rev. Wright that are at issue….The statements that Rev. Wright made that are the cause of this controversy were not statements I personally heard him preach while I sat in the pews of Trinity…”

Just words?

Here are some more words, courtesy of Mrs. Hartsfield. “Your freedom of speech ends somewhere between the edge of my fist and the tip of your nose.”

Tastes like chicken?

April 3rd, 2008 at 12:01 am . by el nuko

Bosintang. Ever heard of it?

Well, it’s Dog Soup. Big item in Korea. Now, I’m not talking about the North Koreans, living on a starvation diet in Li’l Kim’s workers paradise. No, this is prosperous South Korea. Now get this….

The Seoul city government is seeking to classify man’s best friend as livestock in order to set food safety standards for South Korean lovers of dogmeat, officials say.

Somewhere between two and four million dogs are estimated to be consumed in South Korea every year, but the slaughtering and processing is carried out in dirty environments and poses a risks to diners’ health, they said.

Since dogs are not currently classed as livestock there are no hygiene regulations on their slaughter, officials said. source

Now that your appetitites are whetted, here’s a nice recipe for bosintang

You will need:
dogmeat-photos.jpg100g of boiled dog meat, 500g of gravy, 20g of green onion, 10g of a leek, 10g of perilla leaves, 100g of taro stalk soaked in water. And, for the sauce, 8g of salt, 2g of mashed garlic, 3g of perilla, 2g of red pepper, 2g of mashed ginger, a little amount of pepper.

After boiling the dog meat with gravy and stalk of taro for some time, boil again after putting vegetables and other ingredients into it. Before eating, sprinkle pepper on it and put into an earthen bowl. The stalk of taro is to be kept in cold water one or two days to get rid of its smell and taste.

Yum, Yum…………Not.

I can’t help it. I think I would have to be near death from starvation before I would eat a dog. Call me closed-minded.

Woof woof.

School violence hot line saves lives

April 1st, 2008 at 10:26 pm . by el nuko
A national hot line that urges students to call in tips about weapons and school violence has gotten 198 calls about possible dangers in North Jersey since starting five years ago.In January, a caller told the “Speak Up” hot line that a student had threatened to seek revenge on peers.Last November, a tipster claimed a first-grader had a gun in his backpack.

And last May, someone reported that a high schooler had sent a text message warning, “If you think Virginia Tech was bad, wait until senior prom.”

In each case, the hot line alerted police and schools about the anonymous tips.

Sometimes the simplest ideas are the most effective.

And, in a very interesting twist to this story……..the founder of the hotline, Matthew Gross, is trying to rebuild his life after a stranger’s gunshot left him with a serious brain injury.

You might well remember Gross, who was visiting the top deck of the Empire State Building on Feb. 23, 1997, when an armed Palestinian furious at America went on a rampage, wounding Gross and five other people and killing Gross’ friend, Chris. The shooter, Ali Abu Kamal, turned his gun on himself and died that night at the same hospital where Gross lingered in a coma for five days. Doctors were astonished Gross pulled through.

Stumbling blocks become stepping stones.
