“the greatest campaign finance scandal in American history”

greatest-campaign-finance-scandal-in-american-history.jpgNow that this phrase has been published by a respected member of the MSM, and, as such, is now in the LexusNexis search database, it seems appropriate to associate that phrase with the person to whom it refers: Hillary Rodham Clinton.

I received a ping from FReeper “Spirit of Allegiance” this morning which pointed to an article which featured our pal, “Dougfromupland.”

The article was in the San Francisco Chronicle’s on line edition. Here is the introductory paragraph of the article about “the greatest campaign finance scandal in American history.”

In his other life, Douglas Cogan, 59, is a San Bernardino County commercial real estate broker. But for years, the conservative Republican has spent thousands of hours painstakingly researching what he calls “the greatest campaign finance scandal in American history” by a woman he calls one of the most dangerous political figures the country has ever seen - Hillary Rodham Clinton.

Since it appears that Google has enabled “google-bombing” again, I thought it might be interesting to get the phrase, “the greatest campaign finance scandal in American history,” permanently associated with Hillary Rodham Clinton. That is the purpose of this post. And, if any of you bloggers out there want to join in, just copy+paste this post at your blog, or pass it along in the comments section of your favorite blogs. The more the merrier. I’m going to track-post it to Linkfests, and post it at FR and Hannity. I’ll also activate every tag I have ever used to associate it with this post. Heh.

Thursday Open Thread

September 27th, 2007 at 10:58 am . by el nuko

SwampWoman has been adjusting to a new work schedule, and fighting off the effects of seasonal allergies. She dropped in last night and brought us this humorous episode from the Swamp …

A mouse somehow got into my house a couple of weeks ago. I put out a glue trap and finally caught his lil’ furry body, then felt sorry for him all stuck tight to the glue. So, instead of using him as an instant kitty dinner, I decided to unglue him. Hmmmm. No mineral oil or petroleum jelly around, so I used a pretty smelling bath oil to render the glue somewhat nonsticky. I gently pried him up a bit out of the glue, squirted his fur and extremities with bath oil and, as digits and extremities started coming free, squirted some under his lil’ chest and abdomen as well. Finally free, but it was exhausted and unable to walk. I put him (I say him, but probably a her. I did not do any in-depth examinations, but testicles may not have unglued and become part of the glue trap) in an outside flower pot and covered it for protection, and put some Cheerios and a bottle cap full of the beer left over from the grilled chicken that night. At 3:30 a.m. I awoke, and went out to check on the lil’ rodent. I opened to the flower pot, and he/she/it leaped out and took off for parts unknown. I came back in and went to bed.

Tonight, I was walking through the kitchen, and something gray jumped away from my feet. *EEEEEEEEEEEK!* “What is the matter with you?” “There’s another mouse in the house!” “Are you sure?” “YES! There it is again. Ohmygawd, it’s the same one!” “WHAT? How can you tell?” “It still has bath oil all over it, and it’s limping, poor thing.” “Well….at least maybe it won’t pee in my shoes like your house cat.”

Heh™

Meteor showers and mosquitos

August 13th, 2007 at 12:51 pm . by el nuko

I went to the beach to watch the meteor shower. Long eastern horizon, no mosquitos, no animals vying to see who could stand the closest to me or to demand petting, scratching, or feeding. It was, I thought, the perfect viewing place. Except for one lil’ minor detail. I got there, and it was overcast with low clouds. D’OH!

perseid.jpgBack home, the sky was clearing. The only place with a clear eastern view was the pasture. I grabbed a lawn chair and figured that if I snuck out very, very quietly, maybe I wouldn’t wake anybody up. Wrong. Apparently I had lost my touch quietly sneaking in and out since I was a teenager. The mare was stretched out asleep. She startled, woke up, got up, and ambled over to see if I might be bearing food. I wasn’t, so she decided that the perfect place to graze was all around me, under my feet, and then right under the chair. After I had moved to avoid being unceremoniously dumped on the grass, she stood next to me, swishing her tail over me to keep the mosquitos away like a good friend should. I responded by giving her a firm withers scratch and satisfied, she ambled a few steps away to graze.

The meteors that I was actually able to watch blaze across the sky were in the sky over the sheep barn. The sheep were alarmed by the movement in the dark and bunched up into a tight flock for protection. When they heard me talking to the mare, they left the barn and timidly ventured forth into the dark, stopped some distance away, and baaaaed questioningly. I spoke to them to reassure them that it was indeed me and all was well. They came stampeding forward with the intention of gathering around me for safety from the boogers in the night. The mare forestalled them by getting between me and sheep and flattened her ears threateningly at the sheep. Intimidated, they turned and ran back towards the barn. Satisfied with herself, she indicated that a good back rub in reward for scaring sheep would be very much in order by getting right next to me and standing on my foot. I obliged her with another good hard back rub and she made horrid faces, twitching her nose and teeth as she valiantly tried to restrain herself from her horse instinct to respond in kind by giving my spine a good working over with her teeth as she would if I were another horse, but her human unaccountably does not take kindly to such well-intentioned reciprocation.

Covered with horse sweat, a few stray horse boogers from a sneeze, and human sweat from the exertion, I gave up and came inside, perhaps to venture forth in another hour or so when the livestock may have gone back to sleep. I hope everybody else was able/is able to see meteors with a little less effort.

Flirtin’ with Disaster……The Monday Open

SwampWoman weighs in on the virtues of scythes, e-bay, weed-cutting, and marital bliss……..

scythe.jpgI told SwampMan that I wanted a scythe. I sent him a link to Lehman’s where I could get a grass blade or a brush blade, and a European or American handle. “So tell me, WHAT are you planning to do with a scythe?” “I’m planning on finally getting some of this grass cut!” “I’ll cut the grass!” “Right.” He tried again. “You know, somebody your age should probably NOT be out swinging a scythe…..” Dead silence. “What. Did. You. Just. Say.” “You might cut your leg off!” Louder pitch. “Did. You. Just. Say. I. Was. Too. Old?”

SwampMan does cut the grass. When it suits him. Which is not nearly as often as it suits me. In order to keep me from going out and mowing the grass myself, he removes lawnmower parts when he is finished so that it can’t be started. At this juncture, since a good deal of the grass to be cut has a few inches of water on it, the point is moot.

I also sent him a link to a company in Austria that has been making scythes a few hundred years, and custom makes them according to a person’s armspan and length of shoulder to ground. SwampMan read the prices and squealed like a little child. (So SwampWoman, you may ask, why didn’t you buy it yourself then? Shut up, I have a crappy job and am out of money until mid month.)

Linkfest Haven, the Blogger's Oasis“Sooooo, did you even LOOK on E-Bay for something less expensive first?” “Uh, NO.” So, SwampMan went to E-Bay, found a scythe that had been used hard and then left to rust for about 30 years and was in a state of disrepair. The blade had been resharpened almost to nonexistence. It was probably only good as a wall decoration at Cracker Barrel. “HEY! Check this out!” I looked dubiously at the picture. “One of the handles is missing, and I don’t think the blade is any good.” “But look, it’s only $12.00!” “And the shipping is?” SwampMan bid, and was promptly outbid by the automated process somebody had put in. He bid another $5.00 and was promptly outbid again. He put in $20, and was outbid. I urged caution. “No, trust me, I’m just trying to get this guy a good price on this thing. Somebody obviously wants it really bad. It’s a good deed.” I pointed out that the scythe was probably not useable and would just be another piece of junk around the house as if we didn’t have enough of THAT already. “Nah, this other guy really wants it. I’ll just put in one more bid, and that will be IT.” He did. He was promptly the high bidder. “SUCKER!” “There are 9 hours left. Somebody will probably outbid me. I hope.”

So, I will be expecting a worn out scythe to be arriving via UPS some time this week. I’ll look for some wall space to free up.

Free Speech Friday

July 20th, 2007 at 3:40 am . by el nuko

Late night observations from SwampWoman…….

ballpark.jpgI was out in my usual (futile) attempt to one day be mistaken for an anorexic tonight at the track. At 8 p.m., the air was a heavy humid blanket and the temperature was still above 90.In the next field over, the county’s most affluent town and a little rougher town from outside the county were playing a baseball game complete with lights for when the sun set and a good sound system that carried the announcements over to me.

The sea breeze started to stir and with it thunderclouds started to build and rumble to themselves off in the distance, and then I heard the crack of the bat and the announcer say “The score is 4-0 with zero outs and the bases loaded.” I gave up on exercise at that point and instead ambled over to watch the game as the sun set.

Watching a summer baseball game in a small town as the evening cools, eating a hot dog dripping mustard and relish (dripping down my T-shirt in this case)from the concession stand and washing it down with a can of Coke that had been cooling in a tub of ice, cheering wildly for all the players in the mostly empty bleachers because most of the people watching the game were sitting on the back of their pickup trucks…it was a couple hours of sheer enjoyment.
