This post is written in response to some who have criticized conservative talk show hosts, particularly Sean Hannity, for making positive comments about Rudi Giulliani. I will also take this opportunity to address one of my pet peaves. I can not understand those one or two issue voters that would rather stay home and allow a Hillary, Obama, Gore, or Kerry to become president rather than vote for someone that does not align 100% with their views.

I think we are asking too much for any national media figure to openly support Fred Thompson at this time, especially since he hasn’t formally announced. Imagine the outrage on this board if one of these figures would announce tomorrow that they were supporting one of the other candidates. Now is not the time. We must remember that there are still 18 months until the election.

In reply to Sean’s defense of Rudy, I would present the issue in this context.

There are many important issues that we face in the coming years, and Sean has similar views on most issues that we express on this forum, and those that have been articulated by Fred Thompson. Sean believes that no issues are more important than national security and secure borders, and he understands that if we lose those we will have lost all of the issues.

Because of his involvement in and response to 9/11, Rudy is identified with those issues. Because of his position among the leading Republican candidates he has been subjected to attack from all sides (as will Fred once he announces). Sean regularly points out his differences with Giuliani, but defends his strong stance on the two issues of ultimate importance.

Let me make a feeble attempt to read the thoughts of Sean Hannity:
I believe Hannity’s view is that he does not want to see a strong national defense candidate that could eventually be the Republican nominee torn down and weakened at this point. His view is that any of the Republican hopefuls would be much more favorable than Obama or Hillary and Bill, and he is guarding against those that would rather stay home and allow a President Hillary Clinton than vote for Rudy. Anyone that has listened to Sean Hannity for any time knows that his views closely parallel those of Senator Thompson, and conflict with those of Rudy in most cases except for the National Security issues. I believe that Fred Thompson will receive the support of Sean Hannity in the end.

We should all guard against the attitude of many of the Ron Paul followers - you agree 100% with them or they will take their ball and go home. They say they would just stay home on election day and punish everyone with President Hillary Clinton rather than vote for anyone else, just to make a point.

Look at the mess we have now with the “surrender” Congress and the military funding bill. Many people stayed home last year to punish some ineffective, RINO Congressmen and we are now paying the price. Being from Ohio, I am well aware of the stink of some of our RINO Congressmen, but the alternatives we elected are much worse and have given the power to the Democrats. Elections do have consequences. We must work to make needed changes at the Primary level rather than handing power to the Liberals. We can see by the movement that has been created here, that grassroots efforts can be effective in the age of the internet. After Fred is inaugurated, we should all remember what we have learned here and use this knowledge to remove the RINOs at the Primary level, before the General Election.

To vow to “stay home” is comparable to the surrender tactics of the Democrat Congress.
The Democrats are willing to accept surrender rather than give George Bush the opportunity for victory. We must not surrender, rather than give a candidate other than our first choice a victory. We must always do what is best for America.

I am committed to working for the election of Fred Thompson to the very end, and I believe that end will be at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. Though I am reluctant to even raise the possibility, if we are not successful here, I would readily support the candidate that most closely aligns with my views. I am sure that Fred Thompson would do the same. At this point in history, America can not afford to have any of the Democrat candidates with a Democrat Congress.

Now that I have made my point, I must repeat.
I am committed to working for the election of Fred Thompson to the very end, and I believe that end will be at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.
