Following is the text of an email that just went out to all registered members of Ohio4Fred, Ohio FredHeads, and everyone else that matters in my address book. This will be a critical part of the campaign, and I ask that any visitors to this site also consider what is at stake and make a modest contribution to support a return to honest conservative leadership.

Most of the other contenders were campaigning in Iowa long before Fred even considered entering the race. But Fred Thompson defied the “experts” and finished third in Iowa after only three weeks of relentless campaigning in that state. Those same experts, pundits, and the main stream media were predicting that Fred would quit the race after the Iowa caucuses. However, Fred emphatically rejected that thinking when he declared, “It looks like somebody is going to need to carry a strong, consistent, conservative message and it looks like it ought to be me.” He made it very clear that he intends to continue the fight.

Fred Thompson gained much ground during his intensive three week bus tour of Iowa, and he wants to continue the momentum through New Hampshire, leading to a strong showing in South Carolina.

Fred has asked that we step up and help him to make a strong push through this leg of the campaign. He is asking that we help build the finances for the road ahead, and has challenged his supporters to donate $540,000 between now and January 11th. If Fred can get the message out, the votes will follow.

He is also asking that we help to add 50,000 new “Friends of Fred” over that period. He is asking that each of us send a personal email to 10 friends explaining why we support Fred Thompson for President, and ask that they visit Fred08.com and register as a “Friend of Fred”.

As part of this effort, we would like to send a special message to Fred. The Fred Thompson movement began nearly a year ago with just a few people looking for a true, consistent conservative to join the race for President. In a short time that idea grew into a true grassroots movement with thousands of ardent supporters, and convinced Fred Thompson to throw his hat in the ring. We want to send a message to Fred that the Grassroots spirit is alive and well, and we still have the energy to take on the long campaign. For those of us that have been here from early on, and those that have just joined the fight, lets send a grassroots message to Fred. This Sunday, Fred will be on NBC’s Meet the Press as part of their “Meet the Candidates” series. Judging by the questions asked at Tuesday’s Democratic Presidential debate any topic could come up: immigration, taxes, national security, even UFOs.

Unlike the debates and the typical news shows, Fred will have time to talk to the American people in a way that doesn’t require slick, 10-second sound bites.

What will Fred talk about? The same issues he’s talking about when campaigning across the country: securing our borders; ending sanctuary cities; keeping taxes low; taking on the impending entitlement crisis; the protection of life; and abiding by the principles of our Founding Fathers.

Specifically on immigration reform, Fred will continue his fight against letting illegal immigrants get drivers licenses. Hillary Clinton is wrong to allow people who already are breaking the law to get a license that would give them the opportunity to register to vote. Fred will not let lawbreakers continue breaking the law. He has a plan to secure the border and reform the nation’s immigration process.

Conservablogs, the host for Ohio4Fred, has been going through a strong growth period and it became necessary for them to switch to another server. This is a necessary move, but it has caused a temporary problem at Ohio4Fred that I want you to be aware of. While they are making the server change I am not able to modify any Theme files, that includes any files in the sidebars.

When Fred announced on Thursday and became an official candidate, he had to change his website location. The problem arises when someone tries to make a contribution by selecting the button in the right sidebar. This will give a security warning because the new web location does not match the security certificate.

To avoid confusion until this can be corrected, if you want to make a contribution please do so at the SW Ohio4Fred site.

Conservablogs is working to get the new server up as soon as possible, but it will probably be Monday before I can make the required changes.

UPDATE - Problem resolved!
Thanks to Eric Odom and everyone at Conservablogs! They understood the problem that I had and did some special magic to allow me to make the needed changes to my sidebar. It is still going to be a while before the server conversion is complete, but I was able to make the critical changes thanks to the good people at Conservablogs. (There must be some FredHeads there)

I also want to thank Christa at SW Ohio4Fred for helping me out in the interim.

Just as a point of explanation, when you select the contribution you are redirected to the Official Thompson site to process the contribution. The reason we would like you to contribute through one of the Ohio sites is because the campaign is tracking what areas the contributions are coming from, and we want Ohio to show up as a strong supporter.

The thought is that Fred will be more likely to visit areas that show strong support.

We finally got the long awaited “announcement” last night (this morning) on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno.

Now that Fred is officially in the race he will need two things to keep this movement going, Money and increasing Grassroots Support. I ask that you make a small donation to the campaign by selecting the “Fred08″ contribution button at the top of the right sidebar. If you are not already a member at Ohio4Fred, please take a couple minutes to register.

Ohio will be vital to a successful campaign, and we will be using the member list on Ohio4Fred to keep supporters informed of current news and planned activities. As the campaign progresses and activities are planned in the area we will need a ready list of supporters to request the needed volunteers.

In this video Fred Thompson summarizes his reasons for entering the race, his philosophy, and his position on major issues. How will the 2008 election affect our daily lives?
Does it really make a difference?
How much difference can the President really make in the way we live?

Let me start by stating that I won’t even speculate how the eventual Democrat candidate could change our lives. We are all aware of their priority issues, the usual special interest groups, the fringe factions that now dictate policy, and their general approach of Big Government solutions to every perceived problem. I won’t even mention the Democrat candidates. You already know them, … or you think you do.

Let’s try to maintain a positive approach, and not even visit the potential “Dark Side.” I will leave it to your imagination and speculation what may lurk in the future with a potential Democrat victory with control of the Oval Office and both houses of Congress. Let’s concentrate on the benefits of a Fred Thompson Presidency.

First, to begin on a positive note, I must say that each of the Republican candidates has qualities that I consider admirable. I believe they are, for the most part, honest and basically good people. Several I could even actively support if Fred Thompson were not available. Any would be preferable to the Democrat alternatives. (Sorry, that was a borderline negative comment.)

The bottom line is that none of these candidates have shown a consistent conservative approach to all of the issues across the board - except for Fred. Fred Thompson has been consistently conservative because that is who he is. My father always used to say that “if you are going to lie, you better have one hell of a memory. It is much easier to know the truth than it is to remember your last lie.”

Fred Thompson knows the truth about conservatism, because he has lived it for over forty years. He has always been a strong advocate for smaller government and the principles of Federalism. He believes in the fundamentals set forth in our Constitution, and does not believe that appointed judges should make legislative decisions. Fred Thompson is proud of conservative principles, and he will not waver on his deeply held beliefs.

Fred Thompson is the only Republican candidate that can defeat the ultimate Democrat nominee. He has the ability to articulate and defend conservative philosophy in a way that is easily understood by all. He explains his views in a way that is logical and non threatening. He has the ability to win over the “moderates” and the old “Reagan Democrats” without compromising his ideals. Conservative values are winning values if presented in an honest, consistent, and unapologetic manner.

Fred Thompson has declared that next week he will do just that, and he is asking all of his supporters to celebrate with him.

Fred will make his long anticipated announcement by webcast at “ImWithFred” on September 6th, and supporters from across the country will be meeting at the “National House Party” to join in on the “Fred Day” celebration. Fred will follow the announcement with a five day “Grassroots Tour” of Iowa, New Hampshire, South Carolina, and Florida before his homecoming in Lawrenceburg, Tennessee. The webcast announcement is scheduled to take place at 7:30 EST, with most parties scheduled from 7:30 - 9:00 EST.

You are encouraged to Look for a House Party in your area, or Plan Your Own Event. This is a great way to meet other Fred Thompson supporters in your area, and begin to plan for the long road ahead.

We have waited a long time for this, and we must now show how strong our support is for Fred Thompson. Fred can not do it alone, and we must now decide how important it is to have a strong conservative in this race with a real chance to beat the Democrat alternative.
