[...] John McCain has a history of opposing the conservative base. Too often, we could expect him to reach across the aisle rather than offer his hand to a conservative colleague. We have reacted by reserving enthusiastic support for his presidential bid. I have been very critical of John McCain in the past, and will continue to differ on many issues. In January I wrote a very critical article outlining my differences. Please read Know John McCain [...]

As I barely watch the alphabet channels, I missed the "spin" completely. Perhaps that's a good thing, but maybe not. Your observations make me realize we need to pay closer attention to the mumbo-jumbo put forth by these so-called news people. I believe I heard comments on Fox that said, yes, Fred won the debate -- but, it's too little, too late. I don't think they took the "helping McCain" approach, though. What a dopey idea. Thanks for keeping your idea on "the enemy."

Tim, as usual you got it exactly right. We all have "those days" when we feel down and those way-better days when we are all enthusiastic again. In order to keep focused and working for Fred, I guess being more "level" is preferable. But, man, those great days are certainly welcomed! Some days I think I shouldn't be listening to the TV; but, I'm so addicted to the political news, it is difficult to turn it off. We will survive this! Thanks, Tim, for putting this all into perspective.

That was exactly what I saw on that debate, how well you have depicted the scenario..I was so in hopes someone would just stop the moderator, she was so uptight and rigid: then pow! She became entangled--the Leader told the teacher: 'No thank you, M'am'--and the whole place was in chaos--but that same Leader had it all settled back down in seconds, and we saw the Leader Fred act, 'the quick follower' follow and ' the what's happenin'crowd' completely lost with their hands up just like teacher said!.Thank you , I did see what I thought I saw!!
GO FRED in 2008! You are the only LEADER on the STAGE!

Tim,
Excellent post! Those "overly-programmed" four candidates, who mindlessly raised their hands to that inane question; then instantly lowered them upon Fred's refusal to do so and his comment to Nurse Ratchit, tells us so much. It shows their collective inability to know their own minds (assuming they have one) and their lack of courage to stand by their convictions (assuming they have some). I was so very proud of Fred. And, wasn't it great to hear the media (finally) talking about it for the rest of the week? Love it! Thank you, Tim. Keep doing what you do.

Renee,

Thanks for posting that explanation by Senator Thompson. This is an issue in which Fred's position has been widely misrepresented and it needs to be clarified. I hope he also has a chance to address this on "Meet the Press" this Sunday.

One other point needs to be explained regarding Fred Thompson's stance on this issue. Fred has made it clear that individual states must not be bound to accept the position of other states. In other words, if California chooses to permit same sex marriages, Ohio could not be forced to recognize them.

One of Fred Thompson's guiding principles is that of Federalism and limited central government. I respect his determination to stick with his core principles, even if it conflicts with his personal opinion. Too often politicians and others are quick to abandon principles and core values for the quick or easy fix. It is this lack of strong principles and core values that leads many politicians and other leaders to "flip-flop" on issues with little consideration of consistency, integrity, or core beliefs.

We do not need another leader that finds his values and principles in the latest opinion polls or what feels good at the moment. One Clinton was enough.
..... one was too much.

Fred Thompson in 2008!! (just over one year before decision day)

I support Fred Thompson because he is a true conservative. He maintains the conservative ideals of smaller, less intrusive Federal government, lower taxes, and strong defense. Thompson also holds the belief that states should have the ultimate say in how they govern, and that the Constitution should not be left up to interpretation by leftist-leaning, activist judges.

Thompson does not let skirting of the law by either party go unchecked. He not only holds Democrats to a high standard, but his own party as well. When you've honked off a few Republicans, you must be doing something right. I think this is what we need in Washington D.C. Politicians have become all too complacent, and have no problem maintaining the status quo. Under the current system, nothing gets done. Politicians are too busy stroking each other egos, and patting one another on the back. This type of behavior, inability and ineffectiveness spells trouble for only one group of people in this great nation. It is trouble for those of us who are the hard-working, tax-paying American citizens.

Thompson is a straight shooter. While he may not be the exact Ronald Reagan incarnate some are hoping for, he is the one candidate that can bridge the divide. He can appeal to both Republican conservatives, and those "Dixiecrats" who tend to fall out of step with the far left of the Democratic Party. He not only has the ability to mix it up with the Washington D.C. crowd, but he is able to relate his message and views to us here in Middle America.

And that my fellow friends of Fred, is why Fred's time is now.
