  • KUNR Nevada Newsline Debate on Nevada Special Session and Nevada Budget Crisis

    Audio Link

I appeared on the KUNR Nevada Newsline radio show on June 27th, 2008. At times the debate gets somewhat contentious between myself and former Nevada Assemblywoman Vivian Freeman. Contentious means that it is interesting.

Not only do we discuss the Special Session of the Nevada Legislature but by listening to this broadcast you can hear a distinct comparison between an individualist philosophy of self-reliance and a philosophy of reliance on government.

    From the KUNR website:

RENO, NV (2008-06-27) On this edition of Nevada Newsline, Nevada Governor Jim Gibbons has called a special legislative session to address a 250 million dollar shortfall in the state budget.

Just ahead, host Brian Bahouth takes your calls for a discussion about the special session that is just getting underway in Carson City. Our guests are former Nevada lawmaker, Democrat Vivian Freeman and one-time Assembly Candidate, local businessman and political blogger, Republican Richard Disney.

Also this hour, some Nevada Republicans will be holding another state convention in Reno this weekend, they say, to conclude unfinished business from the first state convention that ended in mayhem back in April. The state Republican party does not sanction this weekend’s gathering, but organizers say delegates chosen this weekend will be going to the national convention in September. We’ll be taking your calls for a conversation with long time Republican leader Mike Weber. Enjoy the show.

    Funny Zucker Anti-Appeasement video

    Video Skewering Appeasement

Because of the recent Obama Appeasement Kerfuffle, this video deserves another view. This Zucker video parodies Republican James Baker on his willingness to negotiate with Mahmoud Ahmadinejad (محمود احمدی‌نژاد). Substitute Barack Obama for James Baker in this video and you see what an Obama presidency would look like in reference to Middle East policy.

Is Obama an Appeaser? His anger indicates that he is.

President W Bush gave a speech in Israel a few days back where Bush said,

“There are good and decent people who cannot fathom the darkness in these men and try to explain away their words. It’s natural, but it is deadly wrong. As witnesses to evil in the past, we carry a solemn responsibility to take these words seriously. Some seem to believe that we should negotiate with the terrorists and radicals, as if some ingenious argument will persuade them they have been wrong all along. We have heard this foolish delusion before. As Nazi tanks crossed into Poland in 1939, an American senator declared: ‘Lord, if I could only have talked to Hitler, all this might have been avoided.’ We have an obligation to call this what it is – the false comfort of appeasement, which has been repeatedly discredited by history.”

In response to Bush’s comments, Presidential Candidate Barack Obama took offense at the comments even though Obama wasn’t mentioned by name. In fact Obama was so forceful in his denunciation of Bush’s words it seemed that Obama took ownership of the appeasement position and felt a great need to defend it. It is indicative when Obama and other Democrats are so touchy when a general reference to appeasement is made during a Presidential speech. As Shakespeare might have put it, “…[Obama] doth protest too much, methinks.”

    Its McCain…Now What?

After Mitt Romney announced his pull out of the 2008 Presidential Race at CPAC 2008, the only viable candidate left standing is Senator John McCain. In what state does this leave the Republican Party? Unfortunately both the Democratic and Republican parties continue their march away from limited government and individual liberty and toward growing government reach and individual dependence on the Federal Government.

Unlike when Ronald Reagan communicated individualist conservative values to lead many Democratic voters to vote for him, John McCain embodies the movement of the Republican Party to embrace more Collectivist notions in hopes that they can outbid the Democrats in the purchase of votes from constituencies that think it desirable to become more dependent on Government largess. As the saying goes, “Any government big enough to give you everything is big enough to take everything away.” A growing number of Americans now falsely perceive their rights to stem from what Government chooses to let them have rather than being “endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights” as recognized by the Declaration of Independence.

As the two dominant American political parties move toward competition as to which party can spend more taxpayer dollars for more pork dumped on more voters, what is a defender of Constitutionally limited government and individual liberties to do?

    Freedom and Power Video

An excellently produced animation produced in 1952 which shows that electricity and its multiple uses was developed by free individuals and that we are all freer today because of electrical power. This video is reminiscent of a time when it was encouraged to feel good about your country. It has everything great…guns, freedom, and technology in a time when America wasn’t so “wussified.” If you love America, this video will make your heart swell with pride and happiness. If you don’t like the United States, this video will make you have an aneurism. Enjoy.

The Secret of American Production Video

This film produced in 1955 by Harding College in Searcy, Arkansas breaks down very simply why the United States is so productive and has such a high standard of living. Notice that the instructor mentions the “Freedom TO” do things not the “Freedom FROM” doing things. Today Collectivists trumpet freedom from hunger not the freedom to produce more food. The “Freedom to” is liberty, the “Freedom from” is dependancy.

Ronald Reagan Speaks Out Against Socialized Medicine

Hat Tip: BurfordHolly commenter at Captain’s Quarters blog.

This nostalgic content is addictive. We need someone now who can enunciate clearly and simply about how insidious Collectivism is like Ronald Reagan did in 1961. This audio clip is part of a Long Play (LP) record sent out by the American Medical Association as part of the Operation Coffee Cup Campaign.

I know it isn’t video but I am still putting it in this catagory.

    Make Mine Freedom Video

    Hat Tip: Internet Archive.

In another nostalgic video we see a case against “ISM” and why it is dangerous to our freedom. This cartoon was produced in 1948 and it is interesting to see today how many members of many “isms” would be howling at the top of their lungs against this simple cartoon were it broadcast on any Main Stream Media (MSM). Enjoy.

Too bad, embeds not working well from Internet Archive site.

Hillary Clinton Slammed by Washington Post

Funny video slamming Hillary Clinton. You know Mrs. Clinton is on her way down when even leftist newspapers like The Washington Post come after her.

    This video is “Hillarious”.
