Most Uninsured Children Have Parents With Jobs

You think? Duh! Maybe AP should tell me something I don’t know. Trust me, this I know. If you don’t work in this country the government rewards you for it by giving you Medicaid. Trust me again, many people use this as an incentive and excuse not to work. Same with food stamps, the less you work, the more you get. It just completely trains people to be lazy and expect others to pay their way. I’m not trying to be mean if you get Medicaid or food stamps — but there really needs to be some reform with those programs. If we’re going to be robbing Peter to pay Paul all the time, let’s at least give Peter some credit for working — not Paul for sitting on his butt and doing nothing. Okay, I’m done. For now. It just set me off when I saw this stupid article. Feel free to weigh in.

Oh, I guess I’m not done. This might have been the case last year, but I know it’s not the case this year:

The State Children’s Health Insurance Program covers children who live just above the poverty level. That level is typically between 100 percent and 200 percent of poverty. The poverty level for a family of four last year was $19,971.

Currently, at least in my state, a family of 4 can earn $40,000 a year and still qualify for the State Children’s Health Insurance Program. I think that’s a lot of money, but at least the parents are working and paying taxes.

The following also caught my attention:

Families USA said that about 3.4 million of the uninsured children in the U.S. are white, about 1.5 million are black, and about 3.5 million are Hispanic. The organization did not note how many of the uninsured Hispanic children are illegal immigrants.

Why didn’t the organization note how many of the uninsured Hispanic children are illegal immigrants? Just curious. Enquiring minds would like to know.

Yeah Kevin — I work in the system and cannot for the life of me figure out why people think this is a good idea. We currently have health insurance, but have gone years at a time without it — thus explaining our only child :) It just shouldn’t be free — community service or something should be done to earn it. Everyone is capable of contributing in some way. Many are just too dang lazy :(

Even leaving illegal immigrants out of the mix, your post lends a scary prediction for the future. Why is it easier for a non-worker to get health insurance than a working part of society? I’m not looking forward to this Brave New World.

Veggie Tales Sellout — say it ain’t so … it’s so :(

This morning’s Vent was great — though bad news involving the Veggie Tales was told. Many interesting posts followed the video and are worth checking out. To be fair, I thought I should also mention the BigIdea’s defense of itself.

It would seem to be great news that the Christian loved animated videos are now on Saturday mornings for all children to enjoy. However, it also appears that the BigIdea company have sold out their Christian values for Godless ones:

The conservative media-watchdog group issued a statement Sept. 20 blasting NBC, which airs “VeggieTales,” for editing out some references to God from the children’s animated show.

“What struck me and continues to strike me is the inanity of ripping the heart and soul out of a successful product and not thinking that there will be consequences to it,” said L. Brent Bozell, president of the Parents Television Council. “The series is successful because of its biblical worldview, not in spite of it. That’s the signature to ‘Veggie-Tales.”‘

Of course NBC has its reasons for editing God out of the beloved shows:

The show was edited to comply with the network’s broadcast standards, said NBC spokeswoman Rebecca Marks.

“Our goal is to reach as broad an audience as possible with these positive messages while being careful not to advocate any one religious point of view,” she said.

Well Rebecca, as nice as it is to hear that NBC has standards (I was completely unaware of this) — it isn’t Islam that promotes these positive messages. It’s Christianity — you know, that other religion that doesn’t chop your head off, advocate honor killings, blow itself up to kill as many innocent people as possible, yada yada yada ….

Then, there’s the creator of Veggie Tales who had noooo idea that God would need to be edited out of the series:

“VeggieTales” creator Phil Vischer, who was responsible for readying episodes for network broadcast, said he didn’t know until just weeks before the shows were to begin airing that nonhistorical references to God and the Bible would have to be removed.

Had he known how much he’d have to change the show - including Bob and Larry’s tagline, “Remember kids, God made you special, and he loves you very much,” that concludes each episode - Vischer said he wouldn’t have signed on for the network deal.”I would have declined partly because I knew a lot of fans would feel like it was a sellout or it was done for money,” he said, adding that “there weren’t enough shows that could work well without those (religious) references.” All programs set to air on NBC must meet the network’s broadcast standards, said Alan Wurtzel, a broadcast standards executive.

Yeah, right Phil. We know this had nothing to do with the money (wink wink).

“There’s a fine line of universally accepted religious values,” he said. “We don’t get too specific with any particular religious doctrine or any particular religious denomination.” Vischer said he understands the network’s position.

Well, alrighty then — as long as you understand NBC’s position Phil. I think if Phil really understood their position, he might understand that the goal of NBC is contrary to the goals of Christianity. NBC wants people to believe that there is good outside of God — and that’s a lie. Let’s just watch and see how Bob and Larry play out on the Godless station.

On the other hand …. NBC continues to prove her right.

Update: I received a letter from the American Family Association today and feel bad about acting so judgemental towards Phil Vischer. It was just a little self righteous of me. He is just making a living and it is NBC that is developing all these standards.

NBC says comments such as “God made you special and He loves you very much” were offensive and censored them from the show.

It appears than NBC believes they can lie their way out of any situation:

In response to the outrage over the allegations that NBC was ordering the removal of any references to God and the Bible from the animated series, the network first issued a flat denial. As reported in Broadcasting & Cable, NBC had to “clip off the beginning and ending tags, which are Bible verses, but they were also arguably the easiest cut to make.”

But Vischer disputes the network’s excuses :

The creator of Veggie Tales, Phil Vischer, said NBC’s excuse for censoring the Bible verses was not true. Vischer said, “Well, that’s kinda funny, because as the guy required to do all the editing, I know that statement is false…The show wasn’t too long, it was too Christian. The show was already cut down to the proper length, so timing had nothing to do with it.”

To keep updated on the Veggie Tales situation and more you should just go to AFA. They are an excellent organization when it comes to keeping Christian families informed and helping them to take action against evil.

[…] I was sparked after reading a post about NBC’s decision to censor parts of the video series, Veggie Tales. The post suspected that Phil probably did it for the movie. […]

Yeah, I was really disappointed to hear that BigIdea had sold out to NBC. I can’t say that I’ll never watch “Dave and the Giant Pickle” again, but it won’t be the same way. Major disappointment. And thanks for the Proverbs scripture :) that made me feel a little better. Love you!

The hit out on Santa!

I was headed to You Tube to link this video because it is hilarious, but after following the link from RightWinged this is the message I received:

This video has been removed at the request of copyright owner NBC Universal because its content was used without permission

I chuckled and then decided just to give you the link to RightWinged. You must go there if you have not laughed hard today.

It’s Snowing :)

tony_snow_cropped.jpg

Okay, so I was trying to delete a stupid comment left by some spammer and accidentally deleted my original post from this morning. Arrrrg. Oh well.

This article was an enjoyable read as I drank my coffee this morning. Tony is not afraid to set the matter straight. He is one of the best decisions the current administration has made all year.

“In the previous administration, we had an attack on the World Trade Center, on Khobar Towers,” he said. “We had attacks on both embassies in Kenya and Tanzania, an attack on the USS Cole.

“Also, Osama bin Laden in February of 1998 made it clear that he not only intended to wage war on the United States, but he wanted to use Iraq as a central battleground,” he said.

“In short, there was a gathering threat. In those years, bin Laden noticed that the United States had, in fact, been cutting back dramatically on intelligence assets and on military assets.”

Prior to that part of the article, Tony describes exactly what kind of military and intelligence was left after Clinton left office:

White House press secretary Tony Snow told reporters that Clinton spent his presidency “dramatically” slashing military and intelligence assets that are vital to fighting global terrorism.

“Even with the buildup since September 11th, we are only now beginning to achieve the same sort of levels that we had — in terms of intelligence assets — that we had at the beginning of the Clinton administration,” Snow said.

Clinton is a liar and wouldn’t know the truth if it slapped him upside the head. Tony, on the other hand, it full of integrity and is not afraid to tell it like it is.

Why not run Tony for president in ‘08? :)

Show me the money

This really turned out to be a cash cow for Cornell University. Looks like Auburn University wants a little piece of the pie too. Who can blame them? It landed Cornell a shiny brand new orinthology lab.

After spending months in remote northwest Florida swamps searching for the ivory-billed woodpecker, researchers say they have seen and heard the rare bird once believed to be extinct.

But Auburn University ornithologists, who published their findings in Canada’s Avian Conservation and Ecology journal online Tuesday, failed to capture a picture of the large woodpecker, which makes a distinct double rapping sound.

Well, that woodpecker no longer eludes my camera lens. Just send the money to Wyoming.

Gun control laws … will it ever end?

I found this story looking through Lucianne this morning. Of course, it was filled with anti-gun moronic views so I couldn’t resist adding it to my blog.

Although gun control is generally a tough sell in Pennsylvania, where gun owners’ rights are a major concern in many areas, Philadelphia Mayor John Street said a coalition of mayors from Pennsylvania and neighboring states favors measures such as restricting gun purchases to one per month, and allowing municipalities to enact their own gun-control laws.

“Today may very well be just a bigger beginning,” Street said. “Whether or not those bills pass today or whether they pass later on, we are involved in this fight for the long haul.”

Gun violence has been a particular concern in Philadelphia, where more than 280 people have been killed in homicides so far this year.

But New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg said the lack of restrictions on the number of handguns someone may buy in Pennsylvania helps criminals in border states obtain weapons illegally.

Nearly 90 percent of guns used to commit crimes in New York City come from out of state, he said.

“What happens in Pennsylvania or in any other state doesn’t stay in Pennsylvania or any other state,” Bloomberg said. “We can’t fight illegal guns from behind state lines. This is a national problem requiring cities and states to work together.”

I guess PA isn’t like Vegas. I can’t help but wonder what exactly genius Bloomberg thinks defines a criminal? Last I checked, they weren’t law abiding citizens in the first place and I really believe they could care less what anti-gun laws PA passes because … well … THEY BREAK LAWS YOU IDIOTS. Anti-gun legislation simply makes it harder for honest, law abiding citizens to protect themselves.

Home Sweet Home :)

As reported below, Ted’s surgery went very well yesterday. He was able to get a good night’s rest at the hospital last night and I slept like a rock at home. After eating a big breakfast this morning and receiving his last dose of antibiotics through his IV this morning, he was able to come home.

Official walk in the door time: 10:25 AM

Thanks to everyone for your thoughts and prayers. We have been blessed by the friends and family we have.

Oh yeah — just a friendly plug for Tieki’s blog :)
