Because he blogs on it often, I just wanted to post in support of I Can Plainly See’s efforts. After all, it’s the weekend, and what can be more fun than posting an article that refers to AlGore as an exaggerator. Of course, I’m not sure why we give the dude that invented the internet such a hard time. It’s a great invention and we should just appreciate the fact that he brought it to us.
A climatologist at the Cato Institute says former Vice President Al Gore’s climate change concerts will do little more than add to the public hysteria over global warming. The former VP’s “extreme view” on global warming, says the climatologist, is not supported by scientific literature.
Gore recently announced plans for a 24-hour global concert dubbed “Live Earth” featuring more than 100 popular rock musicians. The event is part of the “Save Our Selves” campaign to address what Gore calls a global climate crisis. Promoters of the event predict it will bring in an audience of two billion people.
Patrick Michaels is a senior fellow in environmental studies at the Cato Institute, and author of the book Meltdown: The Predictable Distortion of Global Warming by Scientists, Politicians and the Media. He says the “Save Our Selves” campaign is based on a flawed premise.
“Gore is known to exaggerate things,” he says bluntly, “and [on] global warming he has a very extreme view that really has no reasonable support at all in the refereed scientific literature.”
So what is Gore’s view? “His view is that somehow in a hundred years that a massive amount of ice is going to fall off of Greenland [and] sea levels will rise ten feet or more unless we do something within the next eight years about this,” Michaels explains.
The Cato Institute fellow contends that, in the first place, there is really nothing one can do. “And number two,” he concludes, “his scenario just really doesn’t have much grounding in the science literature.”
Michaels says Gore and the musicians he has enlisted will see nothing hypocritical about flying a private jet to the concert because they believe their work is more important than that of others.

The Oscars, for those who missed it, were a God event. Not one, but TWO winners thanked the Lord.
No, on a serious note, if Ms. Vader could provide for me the clause in the first amendment that requires people reveal their name, address, phone number, blood type, etc in order to earn their right to free speech, I would be greatly appreciative.
I know this was rhetorical, but the First Amendment protects the right to anonymous speech - the right to speak without fear of retribution and the right to speak and have your ideas evaluated on their merits, not on your personality.
Great post, Dr. Bulldog!

Hi Hank,
Can’t imagine not returning to your place. You get the most interesting threads going there.
I’m glad you feel better after typing that last sentence. I know my blog is all the better for it.
As for finding time to read everyone … it is getting tough. I just hope everyone on our blogrolls realize that they are never forgotten — just put off for a bit while we go about our lives (and jobs!).
Take care and drop in when you can.

Hi T,
As to Leah V, no one has asked if Darth was a relative. Just wondered. She did a drive by at my place, but never returned.?? I’m so friendly, too.
Al got his oscar allright. A local talk radio guy described the event, along with some audio. Seems the Oscars will forever be a “green” event. Great.
The crowd gave the expected nod for a run at Prez and affirmed the PC nature of it’s selection. I’m working with an agent now to get my own docu-drama made about moderate muslims and patriotic liberals, if I can find
some.
The Grit mentioned something I’ve thought about myself, not enough time to visit everyone everyday. I do my best, tho.
Hi Dr. B, I appreciate your work and I see you linked all over the place, so your valued and respected, and that’s what it’s all about.
Thanks T for linking me here..I’ve emailed the talk radio guy all my GW stuff. I’m not holding my breath, but you never know. OK, I know. It’s probably DOA, but you gave me the confidence to try. Thanks.
I’m going to type this sentence here just for posterity: Anthropogenic, catsatrophic global warming is a hoax.
There, I feel better.
=;-)~

Hi w,
No thanks necessary. Your blog is on my reading list because I enjoy it, so the thanks should go to you. My only regret is that, as I continue to explore, my list grows, so I don’t get to every place I want to visit every day. I keep hoping my cable company is not just taunting me with the promise of cable modem service, but I begin to suspect they are run by Satan’s minions.
Fly fishing, I must warn you, is not fun, but is a passion! Approach it cautiously.
As to AlGore, yes, I heard. I am torn between the fear that he may run for President again, and the hope that he will. On one hand, we have the utter catastrophe of his win, while, on the other hand, if he enters the race, there will be the glorious battle with Hillary. Best would be that they go on a fact finding trip to the Arctic, fall through the ice, and vanish forever.

Hi Grit,
Thanks for stopping in to comment:)
Yes, we reside in the beautiful state of WY. However, we do not fly fish. I always thought it might be something fun to take up, but just haven’t yet. My husband fished in SW KS growing up, but just hasn’t had the time since moving to WY back in 2002.
By the way, I guess you’ve heard that Algore won his oscar ….

Hi Doctor Bulldog,
I was reading something the other day on pollution and Global Warming. It mentioned that the sulfur emissions we eliminated in the first round of environmental insanity, actually caused a cooling effect around the globe. Thus, it would seem that Climate Change is the fault of the very people who are harping about it
Hi w,
I got the impression from some comment here that you are in Wyoming, and I am compelled to ask if that is true, and, more to the point, do you fly fish? Ah, how I miss that, here in Memphis!

Thank you for stopping by and leaving a comment Dr. Bulldog.
Yes, it looks like we may need to get rid of emission standards if we are going to cool down the earth:)

Al Gore causes Global Warming everytime he opens his mouth! He has yet to explain how previous Global Warming cycles occurred without human interaction. To say that Global Warming is caused by humans, just because it began during the industrial revolution of the 20th century is, at best, circular reasoning.

From Wikipedia:
The scientific method involves the following basic facets:
* Observation. A constant feature of scientific inquiry.
* Description. Information must be reliable, i.e., replicable (repeatable) as well as valid (relevant to the inquiry).
* Prediction. Information must be valid for observations past, present, and future of given phenomena, i.e., purported “one shot” phenomena do not give rise to the capability to predict, nor to the ability to repeat an experiment.
* Control. Actively and fairly sampling the range of possible occurrences, whenever possible and proper, as opposed to the passive acceptance of opportunistic data, is the best way to control or counterbalance the risk of empirical bias.
* Falsifiability, or the elimination of plausible alternatives. This is a gradual process that requires repeated experiments by multiple researchers who must be able to replicate results in order to corroborate them. This requirement, one of the most frequently contended, leads to the following: All hypotheses and theories are in principle subject to disproof. Thus, there is a point at which there might be a consensus about a particular hypothesis or theory, yet it must in principle remain tentative. As a body of knowledge grows and a particular hypothesis or theory repeatedly brings predictable results, confidence in the hypothesis or theory increases.
* Causal explanation. Many scientists and theorists on scientific method argue that concepts of causality are not obligatory to science, but are in fact well-defined only under particular, admittedly widespread conditions. Under these conditions the following requirements are generally regarded as important to scientific understanding:
* Identification of causes. Identification of the causes of a particular phenomenon to the best achievable extent.
* Covariation of events. The hypothesized causes must correlate with observed effects.
* Time-order relationship. The hypothesized causes must precede the observed effects in time.
————–
So, the, “scientists” who say that Global Warming is a product of the Industrial Revolution are using the, “Casual Explanation” to hypothesize their scenario.
In fact, we all could use the, “Casual Explanation” to explain just about anything, and then say that we are used a scientific approach to arrive at our conclusions, but cannot test it, because it is on too large a scale for testing. For instance, I could conjecture that the moon causes women to have periods, since the lunar cycle is about the same for the menstrual cycle - see, “Dr. Winnifred Cutler’s 1980 study of the lunar cycle’s influence on menstrual cycles published in the American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology” However this is a, “Casual Explanation” that cannot be proved through scientific testing. If the moon were to be hurled out of earth orbit by a passing large object, and all of a sudden, women stopped having menstrual cycles, then, okay, I would have to say that the theory has validity. But, I seriously doubt that to be the outcome of such a scenario.
In the case of Global Warming, if all the man-made greenhouse gasses were suddenly removed, then we could observe the results, and make a truly scientific study of Global Warming.
BTW - The earth actually cools down during intense cycles of volcanic activity because of the large amounts of debris in the atmosphere reflecting and blocking the sunlight. So, if we actually are causing a significant increase in global warming, we

Hi Kathy –
Yes, I think Hillary would spazz out too. Though, I relish the thought. The more demonrats to self destruct in the primary, the better.
