No descriptions of the suspects other than they’re a man and a woman. It’ll be interesting to see what comes of this story. I wonder what religion they might be associated with? Truly, I have no idea, but will anxiously be awaiting to find out.
Someone please comment with additional information if you find it. I will be in and out of here and am not sure how often I’ll be able to check the blog.
UPDATE: Apparently the headline is misleading. From reading the article it appears that this group of impersonators were arrested at LAX. I just copied and pasted the headline from the article — it looks as though they were headed for Hawaii — but didn’t get there.

LOS ANGELES —
Two people who claimed to be taking a handcuffed prisoner to Hawaii for a court hearing were arrested at Los Angeles International Airport after one was found to be carrying a gun without a permit, authorities said.A man and woman were arrested for investigation of impersonating police officers after they entered a security screening area at Terminal Three on Friday morning, Los Angeles Airport Police spokeswoman Belinda Nettles said Saturday.
The couple, who were wearing plainclothes, claimed to be law enforcement officers. The woman said she was carrying a firearm, and both claimed they had written documents indicating they were authorized to carry firearms, Nettles said.
Airport police ran a check and found that neither was a police officer, and the woman did not have a permit to carry a gun, Nettles said.
The gun was seized and the pair were taken into custody. Officials did not immediately release their names.
The “prisoner” also was taken into custody, Nettles said but she did not have additional details.
The FBI said it was assisting local authorities in their investigation.

The name of the company the owner and what they do can be found by going to www.courtservices.org
I know for a fact that the owner of the company has known since feb. of 2006 that we as Extradition Agents are not allowed to fly armed, I told him this after an incident Ihad in Wichita Kansas where the airline required me to fly armed ,then told me no go unarmed, only to be drug off a plane with the inmate after everyone else had boarded the plane( we are the first ones on and already seated usually before anyone other than the crew enters the plane so as not to draw attention to ourselves.)and told I had to put my weapon back on and fly armed, Oh did I mention the TSA Agent that came up to me yelling across a terminal drawing attention to myself and my prisoner and what I was doing to the whole flight threatening to have me arrested? Yep he was the one who later had to give me my bag and let me get my weapon and board a flight because the airline does not allowed unarmed Transports? So immediately after that incident I was already scheduled to take the LEO Flying Armed Class which was offered. Imagine my surprise when right there in blavk and white was the FAA Regulations stating I was NOT allowed to fly armed. I talked openly in the class that too many government agencies and people are allowed to make decisions that I always travel with my weapon and the proper equipment to either put it in the belly of the plain or in my shoulder holster which ever way they choose to let me fly, and I have been required to be armed on several flights by the airline even though I at no time made myself out to be anything other than an extradition agent. True Extradition Agents are not “Bounty Hunters” in fact “Dog” could not do my job because the FEDERAL regulations that regulate my industry do not allow former felons to transport prisoners. Imagine that a government policy I agree with. Now back to my tirade about the owner knowing. He knew full well that the FAA Regulations did not allow us to fly armed and at that point I refused to do so again unless specifically ordered to do so by airport police, TSA, the airline, or the pilot. See all the people who can make a decision about my flight. And you know for me I am trained in what I do, I graduate in May with not one but three degrees, I did this while raising two children, and working fulltime so whether I fly armed or fly unarmed is no skin off my hind side, I prepare for either way but I let them know I am NOT law Enforcement that I am simply a contract representative for the Arresting Authority transporting the inmate back. You see when someone hires you to do an extradition they give you complete authority and arrest powers OVER THAT INDIVIDUAL. That concept right there is a huge learning curve for some believe me I have dealt with my share of Rambo or “Dog” wannabes that I have fired and sent packing in a heart beat if they were abusive in anyway, shape, or form to an inmate. It is not our job to judge it is simply our judge to transport as safely and expediously as possible. You can check out my website and my company if you want to know more about how I operate MY Business. Back to Court Services. The Agents probably did not know they needed to be law enforcement to fly armed because the owner more than likely told them it was ok you are the police as far as the prisoner is concerned, and he knowingly had them scheduled to fly as LEO’s Flying Armed as you do not just show up with a gun and a guy in cuffs and attempt to board a plane, there are several steps that have to be gone through before anyone ever shows up at the airport, so this goes up wayyy above the Agents the letter was signed by Eric Kindley the “President” of the company. The actual owner is his Mom she lives in Indiana works for Wal-Mart probably is oblivious to what her son is doing with the company. There are pictures of her on the website I

Wouldn’t bounty hunters
a) have papers identifying them as such; and
b) not tell the airplane people that they are police?

Thanks for the follow up Velvet. Still, it is a strange story. So, they sound like bounty hunters?

Found this… shrug
“The couple appear to be security personnel that work for a company which contracts with the Hawaiian government to transport their prisoners,” Eimiller said. She declined to identify the company.
Gary D. Garratt, 53, and Rosemary Sanchez, 48, were arrested on Friday morning at LAX for investigation of impersonating peace officers, said Jane Robison, a spokeswoman with the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office.

Hi ladies,
Well, Ted had the surgery yesterday, but did not get the new elbow yet. There was one culture taken at the beginning of the operation that came back questionable and so the doctor didn’t feel good about going through with the implant. Though, he did say that nothing looked infected and so he placed him back on the surgery schedule for Friday. Now, we are just hoping that culture doesn’t grow anything between now and Friday. It was a bummer, but we’re ready to do it again. As a matter of fact, Ted won’t be released between now and then.
Thanks much for your thoughts and prayers. I need to head back to the room now.
